Falcon’s Dad may have signed up for the wrong reality show:

Authorities in Colorado say criminal charges are expected to be filed against Richard Heene, a storm-chasing father whose giant Mylar balloon ascended into the sky earlier this week — sparking fears that his 6-year-old was aboard.

“We anticipate criminal charges will be filed sometime in the near future,” Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told CNN.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the Barfing Balloon Boy spilled the beans to Wolf Blitzer when he said “We did this for the show.” Although Gawker is now resorting to checkbook journalism, paying a dude to say he helped Dad plan the event.

Nittany pickers. We’re sure that State College, Pennsylvania, is a wonderful town, and its parking-lot parties are almost as fun as the Stinque Tailgate, but when six inches of snow obliterates 20,000 parking spaces for the Penn State-Minnesota game, we just can’t help ourselves.

Then again, maybe their parties are more fun, what with the local Fox affiliate calling them “infamous tailgating”. Perhaps that drunk-driving “risking catastrophe” incident last month has something to do with it.

Can ANYBODY tell me where this case is headed?Part of the problem with the legal profession is that there are a number of shows on the teevee, and movies, which make the job of being a lawyer seem incredibly simple.  Like our friend Adam here.  A couple of mildly biting comments when faced with a sticking point in a case, and the case moves to a neatly-packaged conclusion — preferably with a bad guy going to Auburn or Comstock or some either nice town upstate.

All I know is that I got so caught up in work tonight that I just blew through a Stinque meetup here in town.  Apologies to all concerned.  (I perhaps can redeem myself when SFL blows through next week.)

Maybe — through my admission of shame and guilt — there are other members of the Lawyerz Caucus who might like to vent.  If so: please have at it.

My latest gig is downtown, and this is one of the views. And no, not much is going on.  On the right, you can see what’s left of the Deutsche Bank Building.  Damaged in the attack and full of asbestos and other nasty substances, it’s being taken down story by story.

Speaking of the Seventies, we know Maxell did a follow-up ad with a television set. But we can’t find it, so you’ll have to bear with our tawdry reconstruction.

Point being, the California Energy Commission wants to reduce your TV watching. Or short of that, your TV:

The influential lobby group Consumer Electronics Assn. is fighting what appears to be a losing battle to dissuade California regulators from passing the nation’s first ban on energy-hungry big-screen televisions.
