Last week, in a re-broadcast of an episode that originally aired two years ago, Oscar starts his own news network, GNN (Grouchy News Network). An irate viewer calls in to berate him that the news is not grouchy enough:

Media Matters notices what caught Manchu’s attention this morning. Here’s the AP election preview:

To be sure, it’s easy to overanalyze the results of such a small number of elections in a few places. The results will only offer hints about the national political landscape and clues to the public’s attitudes. And the races certainly won’t predict what will happen in the 2010 midterm elections.

To be sure, each race was as much about local issues as about firing warning shots at the politically powerful. But taken together, the results of the 2009 off-year elections could imperil Obama’s ambitious legislative agenda and point to a challenging environment in midterm elections next year.

To be sure, it’s easy to overanalyze the AP’s coverage, and wonder whether their finger is to the wind, or up their ass.

Last we checked, governors don’t have a vote in Congress. And of the two empty congressional seats up for grabs last night, Demrats won both. For that matter, the Repugs pulled off the amazing feat of backing two losers in upstate New York. So what does that mean for Michael Steele? Par-tay!

We couldn’t agree with him more. And with a dozen more GOP candidates on the Teabagger Hit List, we’re looking forward to a very renaissaucy 2010.

I have said all along that the goal of activists must be to defeat Scozzafava. Doug Hoffman winning would just be gravy. A Hoffman win is not in the cards, but we did exactly what we set out to do — crush the establishment backed GOP candidate.

Oh, and for good measure:

Were we to combine Scozzafava and Hoffman’s votes, Hoffman would have won.

And there’s the tell: You didn’t combine the votes. You split them. You can’t crush a candidate and then declare her votes your own — especially since Scozzafava herself tossed them to the Demrat winner. Besides, if she’s the radical leftist Michelle Malkin makes her out to be, the only votes remaining for her were those of unreconstructed upstate Marxists.

But if that’s the lesson you want to draw from Tuesday night, that’s perfectly fine by us. Go ahead, show the Republican establishment who’s in charge. Take down all their toadying candidates. Let the Demrats win. We’re with you all the way.

Oh, and that poll showing that Sarah Palin has an unfavorable rating in the very district she tried to colonize? Never mind that. You know better.

Yes, we know: musicals again. But with something appealing in upstate New York, something appalling in Maine and Washington state, something convulsive in Virginia, and something repulsive in New Jersey — we’ll grant the last two are a stretch — there’s something for everyone in our Open Thread/Sondheim Singalong. So put on your pantaloons and tunics, and let’s all hope for a happy ending.
