Sarah Palin’s lawyer celebrates the First Amendment with this Independence Day missive:

To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as “fact” that Governor Palin resigned because she is “under federal investigation” for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation. This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law. The Alaska Constitution protects the right of free speech, while simultaneously holding those “responsible for the abuse of that right.” Alaska Constitution Art. I, Sec. 5. These falsehoods abuse the right to free speech; continuing to publish these falsehoods of criminal activity is reckless, done without any regard for the truth, and is actionable.

This is shaping up to be a great scandal.  I’ve been all over the blogosphere this morning, so here’s a smattering.

• Bradblog hints that the scandal might be an “iceberg” – there’s more to it than the stadium/house mess we learned about last night.
• Erick the Red is so angry that he’s writing sentences such as: “Sarah Palin has been the subject of vicious, vile attacks. Her family and key staff have all been driven to the verge of financial ruin by relentless legal attacks that are routinely thrown out, but still must be offended.”
• Buckeye Sam at Hot Air says, without a trace of irony, that now that Sarah is “unleashed and no longer hamstrung by her office, she’ll be a boondoggle to conservative candidates.”

GOP circus freak and failed vice-presidential candidate Sarah ‘Talibunny’ Palin shit her knickers this week and abandoned her governorship of Alaska after apparently being informed that she is facing indictment for conspiring with an Alaska contractor to inflate the price of a Wasilla sports complex she championed there as mayor in trade for the supplies and building labor on her nearby home, reports say.

The embezzlement scandal involves the massive, $12.5 million sports complex that Sarah Palin pushed through during her last term as Mayor in Wasilla. Federal investigators believe the price of the sports complex was inflated to provide free building materials and labor for the Palin home being constructed nearby.
