images (1)I have said that, had the Redskins been a better team in the late 70s and early 80s, my father would have lived for a couple more years.  And now I have another reason to hate them.

It would be hard to find a more loyal fan of the Washington Redskins than real estate agent Pat Hill. She’s had season tickets since the early 1960s, when her daughter danced in the halftime shows at the old D.C. Stadium, before it was renamed in memory of Robert F. Kennedy.

Any excuse to revive Rowan & Martin. With all those firearms at town halls, we have to admit an indecent pleasure that the latest report of violence is very old school:

A 65-year-old man had his finger bitten off Wednesday evening at a health care rally in Thousand Oaks, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department…

A witness from the scene says a man was walking through the anti-reform group to get to the pro-reform side when he got into an altercation with the 65-year-old, who opposes health care reform.

The 65-year-old was apparently aggressive and hit the other man, who then retaliated by biting off his attacker’s pinky, according to Karoli from DrumsnWhistles, who attended the rally.

But all’s well that ends well: Doctors reattached the pinky.* The anti-reformer had Medicare.

Update: Oops, he lost half a pinky after all. We’re undecided whether that remains good news.

broderDavid S. Broder:

Nonetheless, I think it is a matter of regret that Holder asked prosecutor John H. Durham to review the cases of the agents accused of abusive tactics toward some captives.

I realize this is a preliminary investigation, not a decision to prosecute anyone. And if it were to stop at that point, no great harm would have been done. But it is the first step on a legal trail that could lead to trials — and that is what gives me pause.

Bank of America, the most hated, incompetent and wanton financial institution to ever steal from, extort and blackmail American consumers reaches new lows every day as the 21st Century financial catastrophe grinds on to full-bore cannibal anarchy, this summer demonstrating a cackling, contemptuous diabolical disregard for the handicapped, literally flinging demands for a thumbprint at a man with no arms.

Norwegian Blues stun easily.Trying to determine when Glenn Beck jumps the shark is an exercise in futility, since his entire show is a crowd-pleasing demonstration of aquatic gymnastics. Instead, we find ourselves wondering whether at any given moment he’s going to peel off his chubby face and reveal Sacha Baron Cohen underneath. Or Andy Kaufman.

Moments such as Wednesday, when he advocated bringing back DDT.

Now wait — before you reach for the thalidomide, hear him out:

Any harmful link to humans from DDT has never been found. Bruce N. Ames, a world renowned biochemist and professor of molecular biology, and Thomas H. Jukes, professor of biophysics and a foremost expert on DDT, from the University of California at Berkeley — yes, that “right-wing kook tank” U.C. Berkeley — said of the attack on DDT: “This is nonsense.”

And if you’re wondering where the hell he’s getting that from — turns out the American Enterprise Institute published a paper lauding DDT in 2007.

Lord, give me strength

PLEASE don't ask where the other hand isAdd another name to the growing list of pols and would-be pols eyeing a run for Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat: former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling.  That’s right, Mr. Bloody Sock himself [said] that he has been “contacted” about a possible Senate run and has not ruled it out.

“I’m not going to divulge the discussions, but I’ve been contacted by people whose opinion I give credence to and listen to, and I listened,” Schilling said.  Asked whether he would run, Schilling said, “As of today, probably not. […] That’s a pretty big deal, from a commitment standpoint, not just for me but for my family.”

…Schilling added to his comments with a statement he posted on his blog.  “I do have some interest in the possibility… That being said to get to there, from where I am today, many many things would have to align themselves for that to truly happen. I am not going to comment further on the matter since at this point it would be speculation on top of speculation….

“I don’t have a really good filter…. Actually my first press conference could probably be my last as someone on the political scene, which probably wouldn’t be a bad thing.”

Immunizing himself from a public image meltdown, a la Sarah Plain and Dumb, or (it must be said) Caroline Kennedy.  I see what he did there.
