As some of you know, my significant other works at a film school.  This means she has access to lots of neat toys, most of which I am not allowed to use. But the other day GoPro sent her a Hero 2 (watch the movies at the site made with the damn thing). Students are using this tiny camera to make entire movies (as well as the Canon EOS 5D).

So we took it out of the box, I strapped it to my head, and walked around my 425 SF apartment to test it out. This is before I knew it recorded sound – I was sure you had to hook up a mic because it was so small. So you see my GF at the computer, the cat on the sofa, Battlestar Galactica on the TV, me straightening Chinese prints, an ukiyo-e print she found on eBay, my Lava Lite, and an unopened bottle of Bushmills I will crack if you come to visit.

One of the most aggravating things about the “liberal” media is their claim that “both sides do it” – as if this somehow forgives the insane behaviors of the modern GOP. From David Gregory to David Brooks to Charlie Rose, this mantra is a Villager staple. Here are a few literally false equivalencies for you:

Remember when those Code Pink activists showed up at a Bush rally with semiautomatic weapons?

Remember when Marc Maron called Laura Bush a cunt on Air America?

Remember when that liberal activist blew up a federal building after Bush started the Iraq War?

Title: “I’ll Go Home Then, It’s Warm and Has Chairs. The Unpublished Emails.”

Author: David Thorne

Rank: 50

Blurb: “All new, never before published material from the author of The Internet is a Playground and 27bslash6.com.”

Review: “Although I haven’t bought it and as such haven’t read it, I’m convinced that between the covers are multiple pages filled with properly-spelled words and maybe some pictures. The pages may or may not be bound to the cover with some sort of glue, gum or cat gut (don’t know what it is, but sounds cool). If I can scrape up enough change from my couch or co-workers desks I would love to buy this as my daughter likes penquins and I like sentences. Even though Mr. Thorne has never responded to my fan email or bought anything from me, I will put money in his pocket by putting this in my restroom. If nothing else it will make a great paper cut arsenal for my post-apocalypse survival kit.”

Back on February 27, Fox Orlando reported on a local shooting that happened the night before:

A man who witnessed part of the altercation contacted authorities.

“The guy on the bottom, who had a red sweater on, was yelling to me, ‘Help! Help!’ and I told him to stop, and I was calling 911,” said the witness, who asked to be identified only by his first name, John.

John said he locked his patio door, ran upstairs and heard at least one gun shot.

“And then, when I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on the top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point.”

This corroborates a few details we already know. There was a fight. George Zimmerman was wearing a red jacket. Zimmerman was the man yelling for help on the 911 tapes. His back was wet and covered with grass. He was bleeding out the nose and the back of his head.

It does not, however, tell us anything new.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney received a heart transplant on Saturday, his office announced. A statement from the former vice president’s office said Cheney is now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., outside of Washington.”  [CBS]

Our guest columnist is not Andrew Breitbart.

Among a few interesting items uncovered in trying to examine the facts behind the shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin without drawing any conclusions, was that a widely viewed photograph of Martin appears to have been altered, somewhat.

Here [left] is what appears to be the original via the Miami Herald.

The one [right] has been observed in the media and at forums such as Democracy Now. Clearly, it has been lightened, or softened, somehow. Along with other possible alterations, he looks far more, perhaps innocent is the right word, in the altered image. For the record, that has nothing to do with the guilt, or innocence, of anyone involved, but more to do with the reporting of the story, which is why I’m bringing it up.
