Sen. John McCain has built his entire political career after the Keating 5 scandal around being a MAVERICK.  As such, he finds some value in joining with Democrats from time to time to get some legislation action.  But he basically has two weeks to decide whether to keep up the pressure or save what’s left of his career.  Please join me after the very conveniently placed jump-link for a more complete explanation.

Holy fucking shitballs:

An aide to Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) told Politico’s Jonathan Martin that a yet-to-be-released portion of Katie Couric’s interview with Palin contains yet another embarrassing gaffe, this time about the Supreme Court:

The Palin aide, after first noting how “infuriating” it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions. After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases. There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

Even drunk on a bet you can come up with Brown v. Board of EducationBush v. Gore? Griswold v. Connecticut?

She’s a fucking joke.  Who might very well appoint three or four SCOTUS justices.  Just fucking great.

DEVELOPING HARD: House GOPers gang up on Pelosi, kill bailout bill.  Wall Street FREAKS OUT, down somewhere between 500-700 points and going lower.  McCain looking for someone to hit, finding nobody as they have all fled the Geezerplex.  Decision may have been the right one on principle, but everybody’s 401(k) just took a massive whuppin’.

More details laters, as soon as sober analysis and non-panicked thinking retake hold.  Kthxbai.

Stanley Fish is, among other things, a law professor at Florida International University.  Inexplicably, he is also paid actual cash money to write for the opinion page of the New York Times.  I wonder how many ones and zeros died needlessly to post this:

Now I would like to enter these treacherous waters again and venture another prediction: within a year of the day he leaves office, and no matter who succeeds him, George W. Bush will be a popular public figure, regarded with affection and a little nostalgia even by those who voted against him and thought he was the worst president in our history.

This, of course, assumes we’ll forget the heaps of dead bodies, the shredding of the constitution, and the politicization of every square foot of the executive branch.

But it gets worse.

We’ve been giving Geezer’s Rovian Henchmen the benefit of the doubt — they know the pig and the lipstick — but near as we can tell, those crazy kids at the National Review Online must be smoking their own stash.

How else to explain the fact they want Talibunny to debate Thursday night?

Heather Locklear: Ray-Ban Murderer

Pathetic flea-bag TV actress Heather Locklear was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after she was observed jumping the curb in her car and driving back and forth over a pair of sunglasses like a fucking psycho.

CHP police arrested Locklear on Saturday evening for driving around stoned after they got a call about her going bonkers in Montecito, finally intercepting her on State Road 192, where she had abandoned her car and went to play in traffic.
