The number of Americans on Food Stamps shattered all previous records as the complete dissolution of the world economy advanced at an accelerating pace.

Predator Drone Blows Away Unruly Canadian

The first aerial drone to be used for civilian agency surveillance of the US and Canadian border has been delivered to Grand Forks, N.D. where it will be used uneventfully for a few years – and eventually inspire school districts in the US to apply for grants to have them patrolling school crossings inside of 20 years engendering all manner of collateral damage that will, by then, be considered an unavoidable consequence of ensuring greater safety.

We didn’t watch Idiocracy until recently, and well, it’s a little broad for our taste. It’s hard to do broad comedy in the Age of Irony — broad is vaudeville, and even Mel Brooks’ best work was well before 1980.

And yet as metaphor, if not as movie, Idiocracy is inescapable. Take the new Public Policy Institute of California survey of Prop 8 voters: Who was most willing to revoke the rights of their fellow citizens? Was it African Americans? Latinos? Republicans? Guess again:

Among Californians with a high school diploma or less, 69 percent voted for Proposition 8. Among college graduates, 57 percent voted against it.

Mirabile Dictu – David Vitter is going to try and hang on to his Senate seat.

Louisiana GOP Senator David Vitter would have seemed like a prime candidate for retirement this cycle. After all, he went through a particularly nasty scandal last Summer when it was revealed that he was on the D.C. Madam’s client list, a prostitute came forward and said he’d been a client of hers back in Louisiana, and he confessed to a “very serious sin.”

Analysis and hooker/wife comparison after the jump.

A speeding truck rammed a woman’s sedan at over 100 MPH on a Texas freeway last Friday. Why? According to the Archangel Gabriel/ Michael E. Schwab, a resident of Blooming Grove, Texas, the woman “was not driving like a Christian.”

What – she wasn’t signaling in tongues?

The people who have given us (ahem) Bratz dolls have performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Score one for the good guys, I guess. There’s other focus-group garbage out there, of course, but this line of crap was particularly odious.

Really: what is it about some most people and their consuming? The connection between head and wallet seems to be switched off in millions of us, even after years of experience. I would have to think that there would be some sort of special shame to those who are getting bill collection notices on credit cards, on which they purchased however much on Bratz gear.

(And, oh hey, did you guys hear that some guy was trampled at a Wal-Mart last oh of course you heard about it my God it was third-story behind Mumbai and MP-thrown-in-the-slam over in England for Christ’s sake way to embarass ourselves yet again.)

Several candidates are in Washington, D.C. this week; they’re scheduled to attend Vice President Cheney’s Christmas Party, which will be held [Thursday] night.
