This is Wendy Long.  She runs something called the Judicial Confirmation Network.  She used to clerk for everyone’s favorite judicial sociopath, Clarence Thomas.  And now that Obama gets to put someone on the Supreme Court, she’s having a tantrum.

The current Supreme Court is a liberal, judicial activist court. Obama could make it even more of a far-left judicial activist court, for a long time to come, if he appoints radicals like Diane Wood, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. A new Justice in this mold would just entrench a bad majority for a long time.

I do not think that word means what Wendy thinks it means.

NBC is citing multiple sources saying David Souter will retire from the Supreme Court, following rumors that he wasn’t hiring clerks for the fall. Souter himself is not confirming.

(Update, 1 a.m.: Despite everyone running with the story, he’s still not confirming. No word yet whether TV crews are gathering on his lawn. But let’s give credit to Nina Totenberg for being first to click Send.)
