As promised on the previous thread: a post about programs on the teevee that have no place in an advanced society.  My nomination:

Dateline NBC.  Seriously.  NBC is an honest-to-goodness news gathering organization.  And yet they devote two hours of primetime every week to fluff pieces.  Waste of time — as is CBS’s 48 Hours: Mystery and ABC’s 20/20.  Times are tough, people.  Hard news or GTFO.

Your suggestions for ejection from U.S. American television most welcome.

And so the Senate roll call is open on the stimulus package.  As it has been for a few hours now.  59 yes votes so far.  The holdup is due to the fact that Sherrod Brown has to race back from Ohio to D.C.  From his mother’s wake.

Look — I know Rush would have someone over a barrel for this.  But would it have killed a GOP Senator from switching votes, out of some concern for a fellow Senator?  Simple: “You know, I don’t like this bill.  But there are bigger things going on here.  So out of respect to Sen. Brown, I will vote ‘aye,’ even though I believe that this bill is wrong, and officially say so for the record.”

Really.  Dude’s mom died.  Nobody could have sucked it up and given the 60th vote?  They really wanted to force him to fly back?

The upshot is that there was a bank run in the making on September 18, and that if there was nothing done, the economy of the United States would be completely destroyed in the space of three hours, with the world economy falling apart as a result.

There are several possibilities.  If you buy Paul Kanjorski’s account, then (a) the debate about the worst President / Administration ever is OVER, but (b) the bailout looks better than it really should.  But maybe Hank and Ben were telling a ghost story about impending doom in order to get Democrats — a malleable bunch, them — to do whatever the Bush Administration wanted.  Which is the Bush / Democratic m.o. in 2007-2008.  Or maybe Kanjorski is just covering his own ass for the shoddy bailout plan that allowed all sorts of waste and nonsense.
