Steve in Manhattan

I had a wingnut on the open fire, ready to go, but this is too much fun:

The ENQUIRER’s exclusive bombshell expose as  Sen. John McCain‘s wife, Cindy, is caught with another man!

Not only that but multiple witnesses have caught the pair lip locking on several other occasions.

Does this really surprise anyone?

So your retirement account has been wiped out?  Your largest asset is now the half tank of gas left in your Honda?  Nice to know that AIG is spending your money on things that will make your life better:

Even as the company was pleading the federal government for another $40 billion dollars in loans, AIG sent top executives to a secret gathering at a luxury resort in Phoenix last week.

Again?

Reporters for abc15.com (KNXV) caught the AIG executives on hidden cameras poolside and leaving the spa at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, despite apparent efforts by the company to disguise its involvement.

Optics, optics, optics …

Lost in all the election news (at least to me) was the fact that Christopher Shays (R-CT) lost his seat:

NORWALK – Democrat Jim Himes rode history and Barack Obama‘s coattails to victory Tuesday in the 4th Congressional District, unseating Christopher Shays.

For the first time since the founding of the GOP in 1854, New England will be without a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Remember Chris Shays?

Looks like I get my wish:

Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse the president on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

A team of four dozen advisers, working for months in virtual solitude, set out to identify regulatory and policy changes Obama could implement soon after his inauguration. The team is now consulting with liberal advocacy groups, Capitol Hill staffers and potential agency chiefs to prioritize those they regard as the most onerous or ideologically offensive, said a top transition official who was not permitted to speak on the record about the inner workings of the transition.

I have advocated something like this since Bush was “reelected” in 2004.

This is bad for a couple reasons.  First, the johns rarely get prosecuted. If any case was going to be an exception, this should have been it.  Second, we won’t have the delightfully vapid Ashley Alexandra Dupré to kick around anymore.

Damn.

And no, I don’t think prostitution should be illegal (as George Carlin said – “Selling is legal, fucking is legal – why isn’t selling fucking legal!?”).  I just think Spitzer should pay a price for his staggering hypocrisy given that it was illegal when he did it.

Spitzer Will Not Face Criminal Charges [NY Daily News]

Krugman points us to the alternative universe that is the WSJ editorial page:

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

I do not think the word “slanderous” means what the writer thinks it means.

The author of this bit of fiction is one Jeffrey Scott Shapiro – more on him after the jump.
