You might recall the Situation Room Meme — this was Before Weiner, so we’ll understand if it slipped your mind — which involved the Internets trying to top each other’s replacement of characters starring in the Bin Laden Death Watch. One of our favorites was the Superhero Situation Room, starring Barack Obama as Captain America.

But hey, any wimp can doctor a photo. It takes a real jock to update a 1954 socialist realist statue.

“Though the vast majority of Americans say they would vote for their party’s nominee for president in 2012 if that person happens to be a Mormon, 22% say they would not, a figure largely unchanged since 1967.” [Gallup]

Our guest columnist is… You!

Dear Editor,

When Rick Scott ran for Governor he promised to create jobs and turn our economy around. I voted for Rick because he’s always been a businessman, not a politician. While politicians usually disappoint us and rarely keep their promises, Rick is refreshing because he’s keeping his word. His policies are helping to attract businesses to our state and get people back to work. Some of the special interests are attacking the Governor for making tough decisions, showing leadership, and doing what he told us he would do. Rick Scott deserves our unwavering and enthusiastic support. How can we expect to elect leaders who will keep their word and do what’s right for our state if we don’t stand up for those with the courage to set priorities, make difficult choices, and actually deliver on their promises made?

Please note that you may change the text before emailing the Florida newspaper of your choice. Not that you would do anything inappropriate.

John McCain, Sunday:

“We are concerned about, particularly, areas down on the border where there is substantial evidence that some of these fires are caused by people who have crossed our border illegally.”

Reality, later Sunday:

A U.S. Forest Service official said today there is no evidence that illegal immigrants started some of the wildfires in Arizona, as Sen. John McCain had claimed.

John McCain was quickly shamed and vowed never to lie agai— oh, who are we kidding.

…so you don’t have to.

Here’s a taste of what Hitch has to say:

Propagandistic writing of this kind can be even more boring than it is irritating. For example, Mamet writes in “The Secret Knowledge” that “the Israelis would like to live in peace within their borders; the Arabs would like to kill them all.” Whatever one’s opinion of that conflict may be, this (twice-made) claim of his abolishes any need to analyze or even discuss it. It has a long way to go before it can even be called simplistic.

…and also:

[Mamet] shows himself tone-deaf to irony and unable to render a fair picture of what his opponents (and, sometimes, his preferred authorities, like Hayek) really believe. Quoting Deepak Chopra, of all people, as saying, “Our thinking and our behavior are always in anticipation of a response. It [sic] is therefore fear-based,” he seizes the chance to ask, “Is it too much to suggest that this quote contains the most basic prescription of liberalism, ‘Stop Thinking’?” On that evidence, yes, it would be a bit much.

We are told that Jon Stewart appeared on Fox News Sunday. And then we are told this:

Host Chris Wallace pressed Stewart on why he didn’t consider The New York Times and The Washington Post biased for asking readers to help read Sarah Palin’s email trove.

“They never said ‘help us go through the 2,000 pages of the Obama health care bill,'” Wallace noted.

Perhaps because the Palin email trove was a mere 22,199 pages longer?
