Tonight, when [Rand] Paul finally strides up and takes the microphone in the front of the room, he seems relaxed and speaks to the crowd in a soft and steady Southern accent. “People say, ‘Oh those Tea Party people, they’re angry.’ I say: ‘No, they’re concerned and they’re worried.’ They’re worried that we could destroy the currency by adding such a massive debt.” Paul then invoked the Nazis: “In Germany it led to Hitler.”

  • Crushing war debt.
  • Complaints about deviant culture.
  • Local Olympics.
  • Fake border dispute.
  • Previous war criminals left unprosecuted.
  • An incredibly stupid population more than willing to elect fearmongering idiots into office.
  • Smoking bans.

I remember all my life
Rainin’ down as cold as ice
Shadows of a man
A face through a window
Fake doc paper on the wall
The night goes into

Mornin’, just another day
Crazy people pass my way
Lookin’ in their eyes
I see some “history”
I never realized
How Nazi you showed me, oh Randy

Well, you came and you spoke without speakin’
But they sent you away, oh Randy
well, it seems that you’re crazier than daddy
Makes Bunning seem sane. Oh, Randy!

Developing: local Pennsyltucky lawyer shot dead at gun range by dood who admits he was stockpiling weapons for militia like organization.

Here’s my question for the floor:

You know how public perception of crime often doesn’t jibe with statistics? Take kidnapping. Many people think the greatest danger to children comes from strangers. But the overwhelming amount of harm to children (including abductions) are perpetrated by family members and friends.

So, we seem to have a spate of Bang! Bang! Shoot liberals up! stories, but I’m hoping that we’re just better able to catch these loonies before they do damage, or maybe we weren’t reporting on it more often.

Yes, I believe (still not with it enough this AM to fact check) that this administration has had more death and other threats against it than any other, and those threats aren’t being reported as consistently as they used to be (or I’m totally out of the loop, which is quite possible). What I’m asking is just how bad is it, if someone is able to quantify “bad.”

::Going back into my hole::

ADD: @FCS: Don’t you go freaking me out, mmmkay?

@Nabisco: Is this the vicitim?

ADD: Yes, yes he was. And here’s the suspect.

@JNOV: He was a frigging prison guard? Christ on a stick…

@JNOV: I don’t have anything to back this up statistically, but I don’t think it’s as bad as we may fear. This sort of thing happened when Clinton was president. The looneys come out in a Democratic presidency, I suppose. I think we may just hear more about it now because the innertubez bring the crazee right to our doorstep.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t blow it off; we haven’t really seen Tim McVeigh 2.0 but that doesn’t mean he isn’t out there right now.

@TJ/ Jamie Sommers /TJ: True. There is also a difference now that we have the glory that is Fox News, which means that if something OKC-esque happens, the blame-the-victim meme will flourish like herpes at an LA nightclub.

@JNOV: I think we can rest assured that anyone who voted for the Talibunny-Psychogeezer ticket is busy making explosives and dirty nukes in their basements and howling entreaties for jesus to assist them in the overthrow of the Obama administration and genocide of all democrats and democrat-voting independents.

@FlyingChainSaw: You just had to do it, didn’t you? LALALALALALALALA I can’t hear you. LALALALALALALALA

@TJ/ Jamie Sommers /TJ: Thank you again, Dear Jamie.

@rptrcub: Indeed.

@FlyingChainSaw: May you never enjoy an erection again.

@SanFranLefty: Right. And pyros make good firefighters and purveyors of porn…

@SanFranLefty: I was this close to being on “Fox and Friends” this AM but they passed on me, possibly for someone they could yell at and bully.

Hm.

Everybody leaves out the Monarchist right wing in Germany when they talk about Hitler’s rise to power. They were actively trying to bring control of the government back to the German nobility and saw Hitler as an easily controlled dupe who would achieve that end then disappear. It was largely their macenations in parliament which brought about Hitler’s legal rise to power.

@Dodgerblue: You should go on Glenn Beck’s show so he can try to go after you for being part of that tree-hugging, global warming-propagating, preaching unholy alliances with the Zionists/unions/black folks. I’d pay good cash money to watch that, and I’d pop the popcorn for all of us.

@Tommmcat Still Gets Carly Confused With Meg: Also w/r/t Randy Paul – I get so confused on the right wing meme – is Unicorn a Nazi or a Communist/Stalinist? Because really, he can’t be both. I realize that the likelihood is low to nil that the tea baggers know enough world history to understand that Hitler and Stalin were on different teams during WWII.

@Tommmcat Still Gets Carly Confused With Meg: I recently finished this which describes that failed idea in great detail.

@SanFranLefty: Yeah, I think you got it in your final point — Nazi and Communist/Stalinist are all just bad words, to be applied to those you don’t like. I think there’s little thought given to their actual original meaning any more, although I think Nazi is still equated with “harsh” or “controlling.” They’re all just generically Enemies of America, and thus are to be leveled at anyone you think is an Enemy of Your America.

@Tommmcat Still Gets Carly Confused With Meg: @SanFranLefty: Sillys! Expecting accurate representation of historical events by the right wing mythology-makers, as if. These are the same people who have created entirely fictional Founding Fathers.

@Tommmcat Still Gets Carly Confused With Meg: Agreed. I read vol 3 first, then 1, and am halfway through 2. It’s a bummer that work gets in the way of reading.

@SanFranLefty: Just to add to the confusion, the idiots paint him up to look like the Joker, who is an anarchist.
