General Disarray

Watertiger emails with some last minute gift ideas.

If I ever need a pill to do the deed, shoot me where I stand.

I have no idea what’s going on (except the ski jumping) because I’ve been too busy to check my Google reader – there are over one thousand pending. I suck. So instead of my usual ranting, I present what is, in my opinion, the second best Bugs Bunny cartoon of all time.

HONOLULU — The Republican National Committee, howling ecstatic sieg heils into the waves in this tropical paradise, vowed to deny campaign aid any GOP candidate who cannot dictate Mein Kampf by heart in the original German, with a Bavarian inflection and a teeny tiny moustache while goosestepping rigorously around the Holiday Inn where they are staying.

The RNC had been preparing a more demanding, totalist purity test for GOP candidates to receive party funding but chose this alternative because there are a limited number of sieg heiling nutbags who would put up with that kind of Lord-of-the-Flies abuse who aren’t in straightjackets somewhere on a Thorazine drip. Worse, the GOP hero of the hour, Sen.-elect Scott Brown of Massachusetts, would have failed the test for abortion (amiguous position), and health care reform (voted for Romneycare).

On the eve of what could become a crushing defeat for Democrats in Massachusetts (a defeat that just a few months ago seemed as inconceivable as Dennis Kucinich being elected Senator in Alabama) and just one short year into the Obama administration’s tenure, Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman offers up a postmortem on the Democratic agenda that’s as sad as it is likely accurate. In essence, Krugman accuses the Administration of timidity, lack of conviction and a perplexing desire to eke out compromise with an opposition party whose utter intransigence is born less of ideological cause than of a simple desire to see the Democrats fail: Read more »

Guess who loves Joseph Stalin more than she loves Jesus? That’s right, the website Truthdig has revealed that, even as she rails against government spending on social programs, GOP wundernut Muchelle Bachmann has been pulling in a pretty penny from U.S. Government agricultural subsidies:

According to the [Environmental Working Group] records, Bachmann’s family farm received $251,973 in federal subsidies between 1995 and 2006. The farm had been managed by Bachmann’s recently deceased father-in-law and took in roughly $20,000 in 2006 and $28,000 in 2005, with the bulk of the subsidies going to dairy and corn.

That’s right: government redistribution of wealth is good for me, bad for thee. You start wondering whether hypocrisy is a requirement for membership in the GOP, or if it just develops naturally after years of pissing on working class families while telling them it’s raining.

meatgrinderIt’s been through the meat grinder a few times, been used as a vehicle for the promoting of anti-choice legislation, has been held hostage by shameless scoundrels, but The New York Times is reporting that Democrats have finally come up with a health insurance reform proposal that all 60 Senate Democrats can support.

Yes, it’s a neutered proposal that does not go nearly far enough. It may lead to a terrible electoral outcome for Democrats in 2010, unless a massive all-out PR effort is mounted to defend the program. But let’s face it: this is likely the only opportunity the American people will have to effect some measure of health insurance reform for a generation, and failure to enact even these modest reforms would be utterly disastrous for the nation as a whole.

It’s not what we’d hoped for, but at this point, it’s this or nothing. And before we start crapping all over the graves of Democratic politicians who had it in their collective power to have given us oh, so much more, let us not forget that every single GOP Senator and all but one GOP congressman did everything in his power to oppose even these modest efforts. We must not lose sight of that fact.

And Hell, the Congressional bill still includes a Public Option. We may yet be pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the compromise unity bill (OK, I’m not holding my breath, but…).

S & M Sex Freak and GOP Icon Awaits Trial for Savage Battering of Missouri Woman.

The police incident report recovered by the crusading Kansas City Star reveals allegations of former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton’s Republican savage sexual deviance that would make Idi Amin blush, including one attempt at forcible bondage, apparently some kind of family-values ritual.

GOP S&M Sex Icon Jetton has been charged with second-degree assault after a Sikeston woman reported he came to her home, apparently drugged her, battered her black and blue for hours and allegedly had sex with her unconscious body in the best traditions of the GOP.
