Don’t Act Surprised

Good:

The Tea Party swept into the 112th Congress with promises of cutting government spending. But according to a report out today, at least five lawmakers with Tea Party connections have been longtime recipients of federal agricultural subsidies.

Bristol Palin’s memoir will hit bookstores on June 21.

Last week in the NYT Book Review, Neil Genzlinger wrote of memoirs:

There was a time when you had to earn the right to draft a memoir, by accomplishing something noteworthy or having an extremely unusual experience or being such a brilliant writer that you could turn relatively ordinary occurrences into a snapshot of a broader historical moment. Julian Assange, or “HarryHarrison,” has been exposed as an Okcupid member, with a playful little dating profile and a creepy head shot photo.   Why resort to Sex by Suprise when you can arrange a rendezvous with him through the internet?  I realize that, in the future, said rendezvous may have to happen in a conjugal visit trailer, but we starfuckers will take what we can get.   According to Assange, “I am DANGER, ACHTUNG.”

Assange is, however, only looking for certain types of lady friends:

I like women from countries that have sustained political turmoil. Western culture seems to forge women that are valueless and inane. OK. Not only women!

Luckily, the past ten years in America count as sustained political turmoil.  Have at him, Ladies!

“The Supreme Court, without noting any dissent, agreed on Friday to leave the military’s ‘don’t ask/don’t tell’ policy in full effect while its constitutionality is under review in a lower court. Justice Anthony M. Kennedy referred the issue to the full Court. Justice Elena Kagan took no part in the order.” [SCOTUSblog]

“No one will face criminal charges for destroying CIA videotapes that depicted interrogation of terrorism detainees during President George W. Bush’s administration, NPR has learned. Two sources close to the investigation say a federal prosecutor has concluded there isn’t enough evidence to bring an indictment. The statute of limitations on criminal law covering the tapes’ November 2005 destruction expired this week, making future prosecution impossible.” [NPR, via TPM]
