Oh Dear, Let’s Not Jump to Conclusions

Andrew Breitbart, proprietor of the Big Government blog that first published the ACORN Pimp videos, is disgusted with the coverage of PimpGate:

Wait until the facts are in.

Mainstream Media, ACORN, Media Matters (all the supposed defenders of due process and journalistic ethics) are jumping to conclusions over the arrest today of James O’Keefe, with the clear intention to smear and, if possible, convict O’Keefe and his alleged co-conspirators in the court of public opinion in order to taint the “jury of their peers.”…

In other words, speculation is rampant, but facts are few. And basic logic suggests that there’s much more to this story since there is so little information.

Wise words. So let’s check Big Government’s original ACORN Pimp post from September 10, written by accused felon James O’Keefe:

While manipulation or entrapment occurs when people are encouraged to do things they otherwise wouldn’t, the pre-set trap is their own. These tactics allow the viewer to see ACORN’s soul; their playing field and their morality, out in the open. Their system is based on conflict and change for its own sake. This system is based on totalitarian principles and class war techniques. These people understand pressure, power and self-interest. When the Baltimore employees saw we were shady dealers, their instincts clicked in, as we were prime recruits.

Surely there must be an explanation, some context for what happened in the ACORN office. Of course ACORN would be contacted for comment prior to posting, wouldn’t they? Just so we could have some facts to leaven the speculation?

Well, let’s see what Breitbart himself said about it the same day:

How can I describe the video I watched? Is it a put on? I almost can’t believe what I am seeing. But with regards to ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, I am quite cynical. So I do believe it.

Hey, we’re quite cynical, too! But with regards to a douchebag kid trying to bug the office of a United States Senator, we do believe it as well. Especially when the Feds tell us.

I’d love to hear Mr. Breitbart’s explanation of what they were doing if it *wasn’t* committing a crime. Isn’t it illegal to even show up at a federal building with fake ID? Kinda like you can’t hide a gun in your carryon and then tell the TSA you were “just testing”; you’ve still got a trip to PMITA prison ahead of you.

@al2o3cr: I was in the security line to get in to the local federal courthouse a while back and the dude in line behind me didn’t have a driver’s license – only his press badge from the Chronic – I even recognized his name and I would have thunk the guards would have – but they would not let him in. They said only a valid driver’s license or current passport.
