California Swings Both Ways

Golden Bears, such as.We have no idea what this means…

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed two gay rights bills, one honoring late activist Harvey Milk and another recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states…

In a signing message, Schwarzenegger said California will not recognize the couples as married but will “provide the same legal protections that would otherwise be available to couples that enter into civil unions or domestic partnerships out-of-state. In short, this measure honors the will of the People in enacting Proposition 8 while providing important protections to those unions legally entered into in other states.”

So did the Governator just pull a fast one? And if he did, who got pulled?

It’s okay to be gay if you’re a tourist.

Since he’s not running for anything I think he’d sign a bill selling California to Utah for a handful of magic beans if someone put it on his desk.

In other Governator news, I attended a presser this morning for him and Interior Sec. Salazar to sign a document about state/fed partnership on renewable energy. A snoozer, yes, but I had in mind Benedick’s question of the other day (about rent — yes, that kind of rent) when Ahnold bent over and waggled his behind right in front of me. Don’t believe it? Then watch this handy video: http://gov.ca.gov/press-release/13576/. I am the tall guy with dark-framed glasses who lurches into the frame about 20:30.

@Dodgerblue: Well at least did you ask about the naked photos?

@Dodgerblue:
heh
always nice to put a face to an avatar

@Benedick: Forgot. I was overwhelmed by how well his makeup person had done her/his job.

@Dodgerblue: So he wasn’t orange today? He was orange the one time I saw him IRL.

TJ/query of sorts: Why do conference organizers think it’s a good idea to hold conferences in hotels out in suburban hell? I’m at the first of two this week. If I wanted to eat at P.F. Chang’s I would go to Walnut Creek, and save myself the eight hour flight. I think it’s so we can’t sneak out and have fun like we would if we were downtown.

Hey Jamie – Janet’s red jacket works on Jon Stewart, but what’s up with that guffaw of hers??

@SanFranLefty: Oh gawd! That’s what I feared. She has the butchiest laugh … and an inability to come up with a witty rejoinder. Can’t see it yet. Will cringe later.

The jacket, is it the double breasted tomato red or the more fuchsia based one with the stand up collar? I’m guessing the latter. She’s developed a fondness for those collars in the past couple of years.

@Jamie Sommers thinks the Obama admin needs a fashion czar: Maybe the color is off on the hotel telly but it looked like a jeweled tomato red with those Chinese-esque tab, which Hillbot also seems fond of. White shirt and black pants. My issue with the shirt was that it looked like a v-neck cotton tee from Target. (Not thAt there’s anything wron with that, as it’s my usual uniform.)
But the v-neck looked odd with the jacket collar. I would advise a simple scoop neck for a smoother line.

Yeah, the guffaw. Sounded like a sea lion. That said, it was a laugh that pavlovianly made me crack up…

@SanFranLefty, Jamie : Mrs RML reads the Mrs O blog daily on all things Michelle.

@redmanlaw: thanks for the tip. It’s nice to see so many pictures (and info on the outfits) of her wardrobe choices, but they seem a bit fawny for my taste. SanFranLefty: Can you believe the Mrs O people praised that yellow Michael Kors monstrosity she wore to the IOC event in Copenhagen? Oy. As for J-Nap, I agree that the white v neck was not a good pairing with that jacket. It seems like she’s gained some weight. And it’s interesting to see her in relation to Jon Stewart. JN is about 5’4″ and a little pudgy but not fat. So that must make Stewart just about small enough to fit in my pocket.

@SanFranLefty: She seemed to be enjoying herself, and rolling with the wit, if not trying to match it. An honest laugh is fine by me.

@nojo: Oh, yes, that was a real laugh. It wasn’t the fake Hillbot laugh that had me pulling my eyeballs out last year. It was more that it was so unexpected. I’m sure if I were in the room with her and heard Janet guffawing at a joke I’d be laughing along too.

@Jamie Sommers thinks the Obama admin needs a fashion czar: I agree with you and I believe Miss Cynica on the yellow Kors dress…but, I thought that the color looks good on her. Even when Shelley Oh! puts on a fashion “adventure” shall we say in terms of cut or texture, she knows her color palette. But the cardigans have jumped the shark, IMHO.

@SanFranLefty: True, but I’m willing to overlook it if she will just please fortheloveofgod stop with the wide underboob belts.

@SanFranLefty: Yes, the big belt over the cardigan was cute the first five times. Now, mmm, not so much.

Plus those underboob belts just feed the “OMG, does Michelle have a baby bump?” speculation.

@SanFranLefty: If she cared about her husband’s presidency, she forgo tops of any kind and spend all day on a cable channel making out with Elizabeth Kucinich, preferably one I already get in my cable Basic cheap-fuck local rebroadcast package.
