Compassionate Conservatives

mark.sanford.getty.galLooks like the C Street Master of the Universe is in trouble:

South Carolina state house Republicans are meeting this weekend to discuss “what it would take to force the Republican governor out and how the process would work.” Ever since acknowledging his extramarital affair with an Argentine woman, Gov. Mark Sanford has been under fire for possibly violating state law by flying in expensive business-class seats. Sanford has thus far refused to resign from office, forcing state Republicans toconsider alternative means.

It’s not the schtupping so much as it’s flying business class and charging the state when flying to the schtup.

Didn’t he learn when he got the shit kicked out him in ’06?

(Newser Summary) – The list of Republican presidential hopefuls just keeps getting longer. Former Sen. Rick Santorum will make the first of several scheduled trips to Iowa in October, reports Politico. The conservative Santorum, of course, isn’t explicitly calling it a scouting trip for 2012, but he acknowledged he wants a bigger role in the party. “Your voice becomes more amplified when you go to a place like Iowa or New Hampshire,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for me to go out and talk about things I think we need to be doing to turn this country in the right direction.”

arnold_schwarzenegger_fatAtrios reminds us that, in the not so distant past, the Villagers thought Ahhhnold was the best politican EVAR. Maybe they should check in with the citizens of California to see how things are working out:

A new PPIC Poll in California shows Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (R) job approval rating dropped to a new low of 28%.

The last time a California governor’s approval rating was that low was in 2003 when then-Gov. Gray Davis faced a recall election and was in a budget standoff with the Legislature.

Oh my. That does not sound good. But remember the good ol’ days, when guys like Richard Cohen were coming in their pants for Arnold?

What hath he wrought? A bunch of line-item-veto cuts, including:

• An additional $6.2 million cut from state parks, which will likely cause as many as 50 more parks to be closed (potentially 1/3 of parks – 100 total – will now have to close)

• Elimination of state funding for community health clinic programs

Stanley with Intern #1 (and their children)Remember that state senator from Tennessee who got caught schtupping his 22-year-old intern?  In the immortal words of the late Billy Mays – “BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

Late Update: It gets worse. In 1994, [Paul] Stanley’s first wife, Judy Martin, filed for a restraining order against him, charging that he had physically assaulted her three times. She wrote: “He was going out the door to leave our house and he hit me with a tremendous blow and then he proceeded to turn and run away from me outside the garage to the street.” Stanley and Martin divorced the following year.

According to the Nashville Post, Stanley met his current wife, Kristi Stanley, soon afterwards, while both were working for Bill Frist’s U.S. Senate office in Memphis. She was working as — an intern.

He’ll make a great addition to the C Street house, don’t you agree?

And check out his website – it’s douchetastic.
