“Free people have a common law and constitutional right to travel on the roads and highways that are provided by their government for that purpose. Licensing of drivers cannot be required of free people, because taking on the restrictions of a license requires the surrender of an inalienable right.” [CBS Atlanta, via Political Wire]

We don’t know why it took us so long to notice what’s wrong with this picture, but now that we have, it’s freaking us out.

Developing story — post being updated as we go…
As of the initial post, it’s about 10 p.m. in Cairo. We’re at the Stinque Remote Office, watching Al Jazeera English on the iPhone. Reports are that Mubarak will be addressing the nation soon — or providing a “statement” off-camera — perhaps to announce that he won’t be running for “re-election” again in September.
Crowd counts are notoriously difficult in the best circumstances, but nationwide the estimate seems to be “millions” on the streets.
“Five South Dakota lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require any adult 21 or older to buy a firearm ‘sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.'” [Sioux Falls Argus Leader]
We have this sneaking suspicion that the world might have changed between the time we write this Monday night and when it appears Tuesday morning, so let’s just say farewell to composer John Barry while we wait for events to unfold.

“The political forces aligned against President Hosni Mubarak seemed to strengthen on Monday, when the Army said for the first time that it would not fire on the protesters who have convulsed Egypt for the last week. The announcement was followed shortly by the government’s first offer to talk to the protest leaders.” [NYT]
Stand by for Extreme Confusion…
A second federal judge ruled on Monday that it was unconstitutional for Congress to enact a health care law that requires Americans to obtain commercial insurance, evening the score at two-to-two in the lower courts as conflicting opinions begin their path to the Supreme Court.
Well, “Obamacare Declared Unconstitutional” isn’t exactly news, is it?
