UPDATE:  here’s an even better Palin answer generator.

No, this is not from the Sarah Palin quote generatorit’s real:

Couric: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?

Palin: Well, let’s see. There’s, of course in the great history of America there have been rulings, that’s never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know, going through the history of America, there would be others but …

Couric: Can you think of any?

Palin: Well, I could think of, any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But, you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a vice president, if I’m so privileged to serve, wouldn’t be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.

More of the Palin horror show after the jump.

You knew someone would come up with one

Mine is:

The way that I have understood the world is the leadership qualities— the need to reform government.

“Mark to Market” accounting means that you show assets on your balance sheet at their market value.  Although the SEC and FASB (an organization that writes accounting rules) are resisting, the bright lights in Washingon are working to have the mark-to-market rule suspended:

Congressmen, banking lobbyists and companies including American International Group Inc. have urged the SEC to suspend fair-value accounting, saying it forces firms to report losses they never expect to incur. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and other proponents say removing the rule would erode confidence that firms are owning up to losses.

If we close our eyes, think real hard, and click our heels together three times, the toxic waste on our balance sheets will magically turn into ponies, and everybody gets one!

Representative Todd Tiahrt, a Kansas Republican, said the House probably would have approved a $700 billion bailout of financial companies yesterday had the legislation included a suspension of fair-value accounting. The House rejected the measure 228-205.

It would have passed “easily” if the rules had been suspended, Tiahrt, who opposed the legislation, said today in a Bloomberg Television interview. Read more »

Holy fucking shitballs:

An aide to Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) told Politico’s Jonathan Martin that a yet-to-be-released portion of Katie Couric’s interview with Palin contains yet another embarrassing gaffe, this time about the Supreme Court:

The Palin aide, after first noting how “infuriating” it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions. After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases. There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

Even drunk on a bet you can come up with Brown v. Board of EducationBush v. Gore? Griswold v. Connecticut?

She’s a fucking joke.  Who might very well appoint three or four SCOTUS justices.  Just fucking great.

Palin Gives Only Silence When Asked to Name SCOTUS Decision Besides Roe v. Wade

Stanley Fish is, among other things, a law professor at Florida International University.  Inexplicably, he is also paid actual cash money to write for the opinion page of the New York Times.  I wonder how many ones and zeros died needlessly to post this:

Now I would like to enter these treacherous waters again and venture another prediction: within a year of the day he leaves office, and no matter who succeeds him, George W. Bush will be a popular public figure, regarded with affection and a little nostalgia even by those who voted against him and thought he was the worst president in our history.

This, of course, assumes we’ll forget the heaps of dead bodies, the shredding of the constitution, and the politicization of every square foot of the executive branch.

But it gets worse.

The Republicans are going to fuck you in the ass again:

WASHINGTON – House Democrats say the idea of letting judges rewrite mortgages to help bankrupt homeowners avoid foreclosure won’t be a part of the $700 billion financial industry bailout.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told Democrats at a closed-door meeting Friday evening the provision would be a deal-breaker for Republicans who she has said must deliver substantial votes for the rescue plan. That’s according to several lawmakers who attended the session.

Nodoby could have predicted …

Mortgage Help for Bankrupt Homeowners Dropped [AP]

I will try and put one of these up each week.  FSM knows there’s plenty of them.

Calabresi_steven This is Steven Calabresi.  He is a tenured professor at Northwestern, a top 10 law school. And he is insane. Behold:

Is distrust or disbelief or lack of confidence in the administration complicating the bailout issue? Do you trust the administration?

This Administration deserves to be trusted because it has kept us safe from terrorist attack since 9/11, has fought and won two wars, has presided over eight years of economic growth, has appointed two stellar justices to the Supreme Court, and has even learned how to do Louisiana’s job of protecting that state from hurricanes. The day will come, and not before long, when Americans will wish that George Bush was still president.

Is this the sort of person we want teaching Constitutional law?  Is this the sort of person we want teaching anything?  Or is this the sort of person who should be taking tolls or asking if I want fries with that?

It’s interesting that the Hon. Guido Calabresi, the best judge on the 2nd Circuit, is Steven’s uncle.  This wingnut fell far from the tree.
