An Extremely Strained Metaphor for Our Times

See, the waitress is Joe Manchin insisting how the filibuster works, and Jack Nicholson is America asking if we can just have democracy, and, uh, that’s it, we just happened to remember this was filmed at the Denny’s on I-5 outside Eugene when we were 10, and we’re too frustrated to write anything else.

Joe Joe Manchin/Binks let democracy die.

@ Manchu Hahahahaha, Everybody Hates Munchin. Kerrrist what a scumbag. SINema, too.
“Meesa sorry Uhmerica go boom boom.”

Living through one of our country’s worst eras sure has sucked (2000 – present, though arguably 1980 – present), however I’m grateful that things are going much better over the last few months for me and the ones I love. With vaccinations >70% soon in Seattle and the economy officially reopening on 6/30, life may become (new) normal-ish soon.

Just got news that my cancer stricken friend died today. I’m just numb (I cried out my tears a couple of months earlier when they moved him into palliative care.) I’m glad I got the chance to see him several times (I saw him about once a week) before the end which came too damn soon for me, but considering what he suffered it didn’t come soon enough for him. I’m going to miss him a lot.

@ManchuCandidate: Oh, man, that’s terrible. I wish there were something I could do; just let me know. So sorry for your loss.

@¡Andrew!:
Thanks. This one will hurt for a while.

@ManchuCandidate: I’ve learned the hard way that the only way to get through something is to go through it. We’re afraid of experiencing the raw pain of a devastating loss, however experiencing that pain is the only way to begin to heal.

My best friend died in 2013, and I’ll never be over it. It really fucking sucks. It no longer hurts to reminisce about the good times, though.

@¡Andrew!:
That is true. You are correct about experiencing the pain. Can’t escape it and trying to avoid it is to do disservice to his memory. I wish that a number my friend’s friends aren’t doing what they are doing right now. If that is the path they choose well so be it.
