Happy 75th Birthday!

Today’s the big day for the Golden Gate Bridge. Gorgeous day or night, in rain or sun. Enjoy some photos of now and then.

I hate heights and would never ever ever think about walking across it, but driving across it was most certainly fun. Much more enjoyable than spending $15 US America for a Po’boy Sandwich at Fisherman’s Wharf (although the submarine there was a good waste of an 1 1/2 hours.)

Love reading the stories (like the Manhattan Bridge) about how when they’re done repainting it they have to start again.

@ManchuCandidate: I’ve said for years that I can be bought, but you can’t afford me. Strangely, nobody’s taken me up on it.

How to write a cable series: Dawdle-dawdle-dawdle-BOOM!

Oh Pegs.

I hope the TiVo got Mad Men while I WASTED MY FUCKING TIME with what really could have been awesome. <– AKA The Story of My Life.

THAT SO FUCKING BLOWS! I was like, “No. Netflix must only have the first season. I’ll find at least one more on Project Free TV.”

They. even. had. PREVIEWS! PREVIEWS!

Die, SciFi (fuck your new name, you bastards!)! DIE! You fucking cheap bastards! ARGGHHHHH!

@ManchuCandidate: Terrified of heights, but walking across this bridge isn’t so bad. It takes a few minutes to get used to the vibration, and then it’s cool. Just don’t do it at sundown (if HLS still closes it after dark). You might end up on one side, and your car is in a parking lot on the other, and you can’t get to it.

That ain’t nothin’. Try the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that collapsed 40 days before I was born.

@RevZafod: My mom remembers that bridge. I just know the movie.

@nojo: Reel One in Library Sciences 101 (Microfilm – the New Frontier) in junior high school. Still awesome.

@I’m passing for white: So is the one season of Caprica worth watching?
See also the BBC series Survivors – two seasons, terrific cliffhanger at the end of Season 2, then cancelled.

@RevZafod: Funny how the overhyped announcer and the dramatic music contrast with the seemingly casual attitude of the people walking off the bridge.

@Beggars Biscuit: Frightened the shit out of me. As does the replacement, which uses a honeycomb metal grid to let the high winds pass through. If you drive over it, you can see all the way down. And it’s a long way.

@blogenfreude: I watched the first episode but I’m watching the “new” Dr. Who and I’m only to the middle of season 3. I have kind of mixed feelings about David Tennant. I love Captain Jack. Survivors is at the top of the queue when this is done.
