Finally, We Can All Agree on Something

“She’s a vulgar singer who wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil’s child and that she will spread satanic teaching. This is dangerous.” —Salim Alatas, the Jakarta head of hardline Islamic Defender Front (FPI), explaining why Indonesia should ban a performance by Lady Gaga. [Reuters, via ThinkProgress]

I would rather live in a world filled with Lady Gagas (sigh) than religoid fundamentalists.

@ nojo,

You are so singing Poker Face on Karaoke night.

@¡Andrew!: You do not want to see me in a balloon dress.

On the other hand, I guess we have the pitch for the Indonesian remake of Footloose.

They don’t need any of that filth in Indonesia. That’s what Malaysia is for. OTOH, I would have liked to have heard him speak, to hear how he wound his tongue around the words “panties and a bra.”

Gaga is laughing her ass ass off, saying “pay me BITCHEZ”!

I’d like to know why Reuters refers to the FPI as “hardline” when they don’t describe the dozens of groups with the same essential views in *this* country (modulo the invisible friend) similarly.

TJ/ Just so you know, I am not team Ivy. I am team Karen.

Thank you for your time and kind attention.

@Tommmcatt Wears A Hoodie Daily: Ah. Had to look it up. But really, I should have guessed.
