Prelude to the Afternoon of a Giant Robot Cyclops Spider

After offending anyone with a conscience by paying respect to a series of slightly manipulated My Little Pony clips, we now seek penance by offering an entirely manipulated Jonny Quest opening — now in glorious stop-motion!

It’s been awhile since we listened to the theme music, and we had completely forgotten how completely fucking bitchin’ it is — courtesy of composer Hoyt Curtin, also responsible for The Flintstones and The Jetsons.

What we didn’t know is that like The Flintstones and The Jetsons, Jonny Quest started as a prime-time series — which might explain the extra care taken with the theme.

Of course, none of this has anything to do with today’s Great National Holiday. Then again, neither does anything else.

Okay, that was seriously cool. Love the Quest theme.

I am a fan of Jonny Quest. Loved that show.*

*for those wondering how a kid of the 70s/80s saw this show… NBC was too lazy/inept to add new cartoons to their Sat morning cartoon lineup in the early 80s so they played reruns of Jonny Quest. I pretty instantly became a fan the first time I saw them.

Of course, it explains my love of the Venture Bros.

And there’s this bit of genius from the concept video wizards of the Boomerang Channel.

Everything about the show–backgrounds, plot, execution–was first rate. Jonny Quest came out when was old enough to see see the sloppiness in most of the rest of Hanna-Barbera’s offerings.

Someone’s auditioning for the next Exploding Spaceships on Mars movie. What’s with the fucking blinking? Make them stop.
