Swarthy Happy People

At bedtime press time, Libyan rebels had entered Tripoli. Gaddafi Kaddafi Qaddafi was nowhere to be seen, while two of his sons had been captured.

We’ve expressed our hope that Obama wouldn’t fuck this up. Maybe he hasn’t.

Cue shrieking of wingnuts and proclamations that it was all W’s fault.

Shows you how much attention I’ve been paying. I didn’t know they were still fighting.

So, who’s at bat next for the good people of Libya?

They must have had some professional assistance because as little as a month ago they were running around like Tea Baggers on a bender and had some seriously crappy weapons.

Yup:

Meanwhile, Libyan rebels said they launched their first attack on Tripoli in coordination with NATO late Saturday, and Associated Press reporters heard unusually heavy gunfire and explosions in the capital. The fighting erupted just hours after opposition fighters captured the key city of Zawiya nearby.

Gunbattles and mortar rounds were heard clearly at the hotel where foreign correspondents stay in Tripoli. NATO aircraft made heavy bombing runs after nightfall, with loud explosions booming across the city.

“We planned this operation with NATO, our Arab associates and our rebel fighters in Tripoli with commanders in Benghazi,” Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, the head of the rebel leadership council, told the Arab satellite channel Al-Jazeera. Benghazi, hundreds of miles east of Tripoli, is the rebels’ de facto capital.

– Rebels are moving so fast it’s harder for NATO to identify targets for air strikes. http://www.military.com/news/article/nato-its-getting-harder-to-id-targets-in-libya.html

– Ooh, shiny new AKs for Homie. http://defensetech.org/2011/08/21/libyan-rebels-inside-tripoli/
/ check out the casual footwear on Homes in the foreground, plus the taped together AK mags. Tevas take Tripoli!

Question for Manchu, Beesko and JNOV: Don’t the rebel cats in the linked to picture look unusually fit for indigenous forces? Five well armed guys exhibiting situational awareness at a crossroad? Just askin’.

@redmanlaw: Guy in the Tevas looks incredibly fit, and incredibly tall (may be the angle of the shot) for an indigenous rebel forces who have been bunkered up in the desert. Plus he’s suspiciously well waxed on the arm and back of the neck and clean-shaven. Not as hirsute as one would expect in the situation.

Mercenary much?

@Dodgerblue:
Israelis getting caught in Libya? Arabic outrage would be explosive in that case.

@Dodgerblue: I vote French Foreign Legion, probably guys with Algerian backgrounds.

Off topic: I’m betting that Palin will announce over Labor Day weekend. I think she can’t stand the attention that Crazy Eyes is getting.

@Dodgerblue: I still don’t think so, but I hope she does. By this point, it would really fuck up the GOP race.

@Dodgerblue: And as Pataki considers running too, the whole world yawns.

@nojo: Obama could walk in. Downside: he’ll give even less of a fuck about what progressives think than he does now.

@TJ/ Jamie Sommers /TJ: Borowitz had a funny piece today about Ghaddafi turning up in New Hampshire and declaring for the Repub nomination.

@redmanlaw: I read that it was training by Western countries, like the USA, that finally helped the rebels pull through.

@Dodgerblue: Not the best time to announce IMHO, Labor Day Weekend is the black hole that ate all soundbites.

Wasn’t it Labor Day or the 4th of July that she quit? The governership, I mean, not any of the other hundreds of times she’s given up in her life.

@Dodgerblue: And he’d be the sanest of the whole miserable bunch.

Did ya’ll see that Mittens is remodeling?

Nothing sez he’s in touch with this Depression-wracked nation more than building a vulgar 11,000 square foot oceanfront vacation mansion.

The latest poll numbers are out for Bammerz and they’re predictably horrible at 44% approval overall.

Congress fares even worse, with a record low 10% approval rating, and that’s from the dumFux Nooz poll!

Satisfaction with the direction of the KKKuntree has plummeted to an October 2008-esque 11%.

Regardless of how one feels about Obamar and his policies, I don’t see how he can get re-elected on these numbers. It would be unprecedented and almost inconceivable. His incompetent advisors already have their heads shoved up their asses. (“Base problem? What’s that?”).

@¡Andrew!: Just up the road in La Jolla. I should ask him for a beach house. I could be his Kato.

@Tommmcatt Be Fat, And That Be That: Labor Day Weekend is the black hole that ate all soundbites.

Unless you’re a divorced princess of the British Empire.

Wasn’t it Labor Day or the 4th of July that she quit?

4th of July weekend.

Which reminds me — we own iquitarod.com. Just in case.

@nojo: I can’t believe the bank gave Romney a loan–heez unemployed!! And only making the most half-assed attempt at looking for work.

@Dodgerblue: It was an expat Utahn who introduced me to SLC Punk.

@Tommmcatt Be Fat, And That Be That: And speaking of iquitarod.com…

Right now it just forwards here. But if Palin enters the race, I may need to activate it. Suggestions?

Something simple, so it doesn’t crash the server. I’m thinking…

HAS SARAH PALIN QUIT YET?

NO.

@Dodgerblue: He’d never make it. The Colonel is too librul on womyn’s rights.
