Insanely Wealthy Area Man Has Controversial Opinion on News of the Day

David Koch is not impressed:

“He just made the decision, it was obvious where the guy is. He was one of the worst terrorists organizing attacks on the United States. I mean, no president in his right mind would not approve that decision to go eliminate him. So he’s getting a lot of recognition and his polls have jumped up, but his decision was the easiest of them all. The real hard work was done by the intelligence and the SEALs.”

And besides, David Koch knows who’s the real terrorist:

Obama is “a hardcore socialist,” Koch told us, “and he’s marvelous at pretending to be something other than that, but that is what I believe he truly is, a hardcore socialist. He’s scary to me.”

Koch is just stoked that he’s got less competition in the “who can hurt the most Americans” race…

Citizens United issues FOIA request for Osama photos.

Unknown whether they beat NYT and WaPo to it.

Anything that scares David Koch makes me feel all warm and safe.

I guess the Kochs would know as most of their initial family fortune was generated because of the USSR.

OT/I got laid off today. After 10 years of paranoia, I was finally let go. Bidniz decision, nothing personal they said–ironic because they’re making bank from the division I formerly worked for. Meh, I said. Took it like a professional without any outbursts or pleading just cold as ice with a bit of a glower in my eyes (who wouldn’t have?.) I’ll get a package out of it assuming I sign the sheet they gave me (I likely will as otherwise they’re looking at labor lawsuit and I’ll get less than I otherwise would.

@ManchuCandidate: Oh shit, sorry dude. I’m assuming that Canada City has more employee-friendly labor laws than the US of A?

@SanFranLefty:
Yes, but not for long if PM Harpo gets his way.

The package is worth greater than 5 but less than 7 months.

@ManchuCandidate: Sorry dude. Hope you get something soon. May as well get a margarita on the way home.

@ManchuCandidate: Is it negotiable? If it is, ask for one month for each year worked. That’s standard with a lot of corporations. What’s the worse that will happen? They’ll say no. But maybe you can get them up to 8 months’ severance.

You don’t have to worry about the biggest issue facing folks getting laid off here – negotiating any possible continued health insurance coverage before going to COBRA and massive monthly outlays for minimal coverage.

@redmanlaw:
Yeah, it does suck. I’m spending a week weighing my options and prepping my resume.

@SanFranLefty:
Yes and no. I have dental or ophthalmologist coverage for two months. I’m taking advantage of it.

@ManchuCandidate: Sorry to hear that. You’ve got a terrific skill set (I sometimes envy my brother his computer/engineer ways), so hopefully your search will be shorter than most.

@SanFranLefty:
Under Canada City law, I was given a “generous” package. In my bidniz the 4 week/year is pretty much dead otherwise I’d have year of pay (11 years * 4 weeks + 8 week “notice.”)

@mellbell:
Thanks. It happens. I’m a touch bitter about it (especially as things are actually going well in my division), but not much I can really do.

@ManchuCandidate: To tie your news back to the topic of the thread, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is privatizing the nuke plants to Koch Industries’ supervision, maybe they’re hiring engineers/computer persons if you want to come south of the border.

@ManchuCandidate: If you want a second (or third or fourth) pair of eyes on your resume, send it on over.

@SanFranLefty:
Not wingnutty enough. In my profession (of engineering) I’m considered a fucking commie. Leans strong RW and has a strong streak of Randism.

@nojo: It’s boilerplate, of course, but the fee waiver request is pretty rich nevertheless.

@mellbell:
Thanks. I’ve got a lot of updating to do.

@ManchuCandidate: There’s not a non-compete clause in whatever you’re signing, is there? Those are the bane of the existence of Silicon Valley engineers.

Thanks again. Going out with friends for drinks (not many as I’m driving.)

@SanFranLefty:
That’s already been signed when I joined. Unenforceable unless I’m an execubot.

@ManchuCandidate: Sorry to hear your news. You seem pretty balanced about it. Lets hope this will let you go on to bigger and better things.

@ManchuCandidate: Oh man, I’m sorry. I hope you find a place that a) appreciates you more and b) has competent management. Things are going much better in Canada City than in the US I hear, and especially since youz gots the mad kompewtah skillz, I’m sure recruiters will be beating down your door.

On the off chance that you wanna work for Amazon or Microsoft, they’re hiring engineers like kray-zee. They just had a big career fair at the University that I attend and opportunities abound–if you know abouts the Androids and the Windows.

@ManchuCandidate: Oh, and to build off of what ¡Andrew! said, there are billboards galore up and down 101 on the Peninsula saying that Salesforce.com, Zynga, the Book of Faces, and Twitter are hiring ingenieros de las computadoras ASAP. Twitter just got a controversial sweetheart tax abatement deal from The City of Ess Eff to not move to San Mateo County in exchange for setting up shop in the Tenderloin/Mid-Market area on Market and 7th Street (a.k.a. Corner of Crack and Ho) and I don’t know if it’s as a result, but they’re on a hiring binge. Lots of good Vietnamese restaurants in the area, if you can dodge the tweakers and unmedicated homeless hanging outside the 9th Circuit and BART station. I know a Canuck engineer who works at a big software company owned by a megalomaniac sailor if you want to network with a countrywoman.

@ManchuCandidate: I’m sorry about the blow they just administered. It’s scary and painful and infuriating, I’m sure. Bad cess to them. I hope this turn of events will later come to seem a great blessing in disguise.

Thanks all.

In the light of day and after a couple of beers, I’m not complaining yet. Lots of things to do like revising my resume.

@ManchuCandidate: Hey dude. Welcome to the club. What we lack in exclusivity, we make up for in booziness.

@TJ/ Jamie Sommers /TJ:
Sometimes a bender is a good thing. Catharsis. Not going to do that till May 14th (friend’s party.)

@ManchuCandidate: @TJ/ Jamie Sommers /TJ:
and then there were 3.
so sorry MC, as lynn said, a blessing in disguise is likely.
i’m still working on getting a work permit, which is almost impossible, to give me the opportunity to not find a position. so i feel you and i’m rootin for ya. better things to come…….

@ManchuCandidate:
what about that book you’ve been toying with writing???

@baked:
Thanks.

The thought has crossed my mind. Depends on how quick the job search goes (yeah, I’m being optimistic.)
