Now With Slightly Less Suck!

“House Republicans plan to sidestep a charged debate over the distinction between ‘forcible rape’ and ‘rape’ by altering the language of a bill banning taxpayer subsidies for abortions… The modifier ‘forcible’ will be dropped so that the exemption covers all forms of rape, as well as cases of incest and the endangerment of the life of the mother.” [Politico]

Gee, how generous of them. They were well on their way to alienating yet another large bloc of the electorate.

@SanFranLefty: Now they can go back to narrowing what “endangering the life of the mother” means. Notice it isn’t “life or health”–if it wrecks her mental or physical health forever, that’s A-OK.

TPM reports:

The new version of the bill apparently retains the clause that limits the incest exemption to girls under the age of 18 and language that makes it tougher for women to obtain abortion coverage through their private insurers.

Apparently Republicans don’t consider it to be “incest” if she’s over 18.

Forget it, Jake, it’s Chinatown.

@Serolf Divad: Someone’s been reading too much Anais Nin.

@Mistress Cynica: I read too much Annais Nin to try to impress a girl. Is there any other reason?

as opposed to voluntary rape. I guess.

@Serolf Divad:

The last bit is far more annoying – apparently it’s “government spending” if you get to put money in your HSA pre-tax. How exactly that squares with the teabagger mantra of “tax cuts aren’t spending, they just let you keep UR MONEEZ!” is a mystery to me.

@al2o3cr:
Because… white people are in charge of fucking you over, not a half black guy.

@Serolf Divad: I want to say something more insightful in response, but all I can think of is “oh, gross.”
