Maria Schneider (1952-2011)

Cue the “Last Tango for Maria Schneider” headlines.

No butter scene photos for you!

[Guardian: Maria Schneider dies aged 58]

American males pour out a stick of butter.

ADD: I keep remembering the line as “My name is Paul” before Brando gets plugged, but I can’t find confirmation. I always found that highly Existential, although I didn’t know the term at the time.

Knowing that Schneider was taken aback by the stick of butter scene — it was a last minute add and not in the script — makes it very difficult for me to watch the movie now.

@Signal to Noise: Taken aback is an understatement. From The Guardian:

The film made Schneider a star, although she later accused Brando and Bertolucci of exploiting her. She described the director as “a gangster and a pimp”, likened the experience to being “raped” and said that Last Tango in Paris had taught her an important lesson: “Never take your clothes off for a middle-aged man who claims that it’s art.”

very young.
doesnt say why she died.

@Capt Howdy: She’d struggled with addiction and mental illness for years. Sad.

heads up
the “professor” al jazzera has been talking to all morning is smokin hot.

@Capt Howdy:
