Share the Rainbow, Taste the Rainbow

“An activist for a sub-group of the anti-gay group the National Organization for Marriage is speaking out against the use of the rainbow as a symbol for gay rights. ‘We are the real rainbow coalition. The gay lobby does not own the rainbow,’ she said.” [TPM]

Sure, why not? The Bush crowd already commandeered ‘fabulous’. Most days they sounded like a bunch of pre-Stonewall closet cases letting their hair down over martinis at a tea-dance in the Pines.

As Garland once said to a fan, “Lady, I got rainbows coming out of my ass.”

TJ: Approximately 30 Code Pinkers holding a “Free Bradley Manning” protest at the corner of Sansome Street and Sutter Street. Right now all they’ve done is drive away the panhandler who’s normally at the BART station entrance and the Guatemalan lady who sets up her table to sell knit sweaters, indigenous folk art, and Giants t-shirts.

I presume that SanFranLefty is referring to Sansome & Sutter in San Francisco. And not in Quantico, Va., where SPC Manning currently resides. If that be so: GEOGRAPHY FAIL.

@SanFranLefty: There’s a very distressing piece about him at Salon.

@Benedick: I read it. It’s horrifying. Linque here for anyone else.

One of my favorite authors — and I think he’s one of your faves, too — wrote (depending upon which translation from Russian you use) that “the degree of civilization of a society can be judged by entering its prisons.” More true than ever 150 years later.
