A stupid ignorant RW ideologue drunk who fucked up relations with China, indirectly got the US into a messy war in Vietnam (cause Demrats had to show they were “tough”) and pretended he was a war hero…

No, I don’t see any similarities with the RW today. Nope.

Tail Gunner Joe. Too bad he was not the subject of the well-known poem by Randall Jarrell:

From my mother’s sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Have I discovered something that might explain what lies behind the fundies’ irrational fear of the census? Perhaps I’m merely stating the obvious (not for the first time) but I didn’t know this story. Anything’s better than to have to think this pathetic drunk and his fagnazi enabler Roy Cohn.

@Benedick:
I forgot about Cohn, that slimy shithole nazi wannabe.

The past is the present is the future with the GOP.

ADD: this whole rehabilitation of history is amusing in an ironic sense. Weren’t these the same guys who bitched endlessly about historical revisionism (some points I agree with but otherwise)? Oh yeah…

Only time I agreed with RWers was over the Enola Gay Exhibit. Both the US and Japan were pretty vicious to each other and if the Smithsonian left it at that, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I never bought into this idea (from RW Japanese nutters, ironically) that Japan was more a victim as the original exhibit portrayed.

True stories:
Went to college in Joe’s home state (WI) and people were in the habit of having their photos taken whilst dancing on Joe McCarthy’s grave.

His bust still graces the Appleton courthouse, so a couple of friends (a gay and lesbian) who decided to get opposite-married for the health insurance (back in the early 90’s when gay marriage was just a red balloon of a dream, floating away in the sky), did so in the lobby of the courthouse right there in front of old Joe. Just to say F-you, Joe!

It”s the wingnut way – take a bit of common knowledge: McCarthy was bad, Reagan was a dullard, Bush was ignorant, we are the result of evolution – and come up with ‘evidence’ that common wisdom is wrong. Fucking morons.

To Stinquers in Canada City – WTF?

@al2o3cr: I looked through those pictures and don’t find them terribly persuasive. The man on the roof of the police car looks like he’s wearing black sneakers and not boots as the article claims. And the hi-res shots the writer recommends we go to to see proof don’t really show what he claims they do. Unless I didn’t look carefully enough. The protestors look like the anti-Vietnam hippies. Did I miss something?
