J.D. Hayworth for National Grants Conferences

Let’s set the Wayback Machine for November 2007…

JAYE: “Hundreds of billions of dollars — wow. Well, forgive me if I sound like a skepic, because that’s a lot of money. It sounds too good to be true. Congressman, is it for real?”

HAYWORTH: “It is for real. Now look, I understand the skepticism, in part because President (Ronald) Reagan used to say the greatest contradiction ever uttered was, ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.'”

JAYE: (Laughs.)

Yes, we get a chuckle, too. Especially since the outfit J.D.’s shilling for “has faced criticism from multiple state attorneys general and Better Business Bureaus.” Seems they charged up to $1,200 for details about how to receive free government money.

Detail #1: The government doesn’t give free money to individuals.

We also get a chuckle from the outfit’s owner, Michael Milin, giving John McCain $9,400 in 2008. And how McCain’s spokesbot says Psychogeezer “recently has given the Milin money to charity.”

“Recently.” Like, just after the story broke?

J.D. Hayworth or John McCain… it’s like choosing between an ice-cream cone filled with dog poop or a Hershey bar made of dog poop.

What the fuck is wrong with this asshole? Can’t he cook meth?

Nothing out of the ordinary for the teabaggers – “all government is bad except for the bit that gives me cash moneez” is standard protocol. Thus you get disability recipients whining about the evils of “socialism”, “keep the government out of my Medicare” signs, and people like Bachmann collecting stacks of farm subsidies or Rand Paul pulling down $260k/yr from Medicare.

Saddest thing about the way that Raygun quote is so abused? It was a real message during FDR’s New Deal programs, and people were glad to get that help. How many (more) millions of people would have starved, leaped to their deaths or, *gasp* turned to sociamalism, if the government hadn’t been there to help?
