“Al Jazeera is putting the final touches on a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore and his business partners seven years ago.” [NYT]

Can’t wait to hear the wingnut reaction to this one.

The pitch is that instead of struggling to get carriage on cable systems, Al Jazeera can just take over Current’s slot.

Unless Current isn’t offered in the first place.

I wouldn’t mind Al Jazeera in Sandy Eggo. Anything but CNN. Although I’d settle for CNN International.

I’ll watch… if Al makes the announcement to Texa$$ audiences in perfectly accented Arabic.

@¡Andrew!: Only if the caption under him reads “Al ‘Jazeera’ Gore”

Jennifer Granholm does a good job on Current. The Young Turks are good too. Current has been running a series called 24 about the last 24 hours in the lives of John Belushi, Nichole Simpson, JFK JR and such celebs. They also run good docs such as the Oxycontin Highway. To their credit, they haven’t shown any reality crap yet, like the shit the history channel has devolved into. I watch Current TV as much as MSNBC.

And how does this differ from Rupert Murdoch buying US media outlets? Well, okay, Al Jazeera probably has higher journalistic standards than Murdoch, but still….

@jwmcsame:

NEVER READ THE COMMENTS.

I did – it’s truly remarkable how utterly un-self-aware the Fox News drones are…

Aren’t prominent Muslins the major stockholders in Fox News?

So Time-Warner is dropping the channel for fear of being branded terrists.
