Riiight… and wingnuts never shriek about boobies, evilushun, sex or abortion.

Saw this book yesterday at Walmart when I rolled in for a few things. I like to check out their book selection to see what lines of thought they’re promoting. They do have the Walking Dead comix compendium for 1/3 off list, so I may get it for my birthday present to me.

Found 9mm ammo for the first time since January at Wally’s. One hundred rounds of cheap Russian 115 gr FMJs for $10 and change a box. Supposedly it burns dirty and smells bad, but shoots well. Looking forward to trying it out.

We jack this thread to give tribute to Cinque de Mayo, which is the Mexican Juneteenth, or the white people’s Renaissance Fair. In other words, another excuse to drink and eat to excess.

@matador1015: Here’s what one of my friends has to say about that:

“History is an amazing thing. Everything is related to everything.

“Today is Cinco de Mayo. Unfortunately, many people assume it is Mexican Independence Day (instead that is September 16th). Of course, it is not. Instead, it is the day that the Mexican Army defeated a much better equipped, larger, and undefeated French Army in Puebla, Mexico.

“It should be a very important celebration for African Americans in this country in that without that defeat, there is a good chance Napolean III would have resupplied the Confederate Army in the United States, either prolonging the American Civil War, or reversing the outcome altogether. Things might be very different for us today.

“Happy Cinco de Mayo!”

@redmanlaw: Yep, 5odM ignored in Mexico and celebrated in Mexican America. But the connection is something I’d not heard of. Definitely passing that on.

@matador1015: So it’s the Mexican St. Patrick’s Day?

@Benedick: Yes. And I’m damn proud of my absolute lack of judgment.

@redmanlaw: I did not know that about May 5. I must find out more.

… it burns dirty and smells bad, but shoots well. aka, everyone’s favorite first date.

@nojo: Lack of shame? Check. Adorable? Check.

Mind you, the hubby is watching the appalling movie of Hello Dolly so I should be careful about casting nasturtiums.

@Mistress Cynica: Either that or Columbus Day, since they’re more parade-oriented.
