The Lord Kills in Mysterious Ways

Our guest columnist failed to consult the American Republican party before writing this story.

Two investigations are under way into the death of a woman who was 17 weeks pregnant, at University Hospital Galway last month.

Savita Halappanavar (31), a dentist, presented with back pain at the hospital on October 21st, was found to be miscarrying, and died of septicaemia a week later.

Her husband, Praveen Halappanavar (34), an engineer at Boston Scientific in Galway, says she asked several times over a three-day period that the pregnancy be terminated. He says that, having been told she was miscarrying, and after one day in severe pain, Ms Halappanavar asked for a medical termination.

This was refused, he says, because the foetal heartbeat was still present and they were told, “this is a Catholic country”.

I lack adequate words to express my outrage. I try, but it just degenerates into “fuckity-fuck-fuck-goddam-church-assholes-DIE.”

Just shoot me in the face and piss on my corpse.

Paul Ryan’s dream for the US.

@Mistress Cynica: I had a few more “motherfuckers” in my “fuckity-fuck-fuck” sputtering, but otherwise, like you.

Yes, what you all said. My mother made a point of telling me more than once when I was an adolescent that I should never go to a Catholic hospital to have a baby because they would always choose the life of the infant over the life of the mother. Just lately I heard myself telling someone about her warning me and wondered if maybe her warning was just an old wives’ tale. I guess I have my answer.

@SanFranLefty: I couldn’t even swear effectively. This situation calls for Chainsaw.

Those “pro-life” people better stay the fuck away from me, because I’m not sure I could stop myself popping them a good one if they got within arm’s length.

And . . . they can start the budget talks with eliminating the religion “loop-hole.”

@BobCens: How about the IRS eliminating the tax deduction for the churches telling people how to vote if they don’t want to go to hell?

Actually, I’d go for a preemptive strike.
