The Lone Arranger

Must have been, because this recording of the two parts of the William Tell Overture that count were done with an orchestra twice the size of the one Rossini would have used, but hey … it works:

I don’t know if every Navy ship has a theme song, I guess you’d call it. It’s the song played over the PA system when they go underway for a long cruise and (maybe?) when they return. “William Tell” was the song for the Ranger (CV-61), H#1’s ship.

Fun fact: On average, three people are “lost” at sea on each tour in addition to work-related accidents like getting sucked through an intake (Human FOD). “Lost” = tossed or falling overboard. Shellback hazing has nothing on falling off a supercarrier.

My vote for most meta cartoon was a Far Side entry from years ago (not available online, alas) where Tonto, standing outside an outhouse, yells, “Kemosabe! The music’s starting!”

Reed players can’t suck cock.

Their lips go the wrong way!
