“President Obama plans to propose his jobs plan in a prime-time address to a joint session of Congress on Sept. 7, a week from today. That’s the same night as a scheduled debate among the Republican candidates who would like to replace Obama — and both are set to start at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.” [USA Today]

“It’s my debate and I’ll cry if I want to… cry if I want to… you’d cry to if this happened to yoooooooouuuu!!!!”

I’ll make a bet right now that Fox News shows the Tea Party live and the president’s speech delayed. Why didn’t the Republicans include an amendment to the debt ceiling that allows Fox to schedule all television appearances by presidents from now on? Somebody took their eye off the ball. Mitch, I’m very disappointed.

@Dave H: More fun: The September 7 debate is cosponsored by Politico and MSNBC. It was originally scheduled for last May.

Maybe they can do the debate MST3K-style with the live speech. Either that, or they can just take turns yelling the n-word at the video of the President and declare whoever does it the loudest the winnar. ;)

@al2o3cr: How is that different from what they are doing right now?

So…

MSNBC sez it’ll happily reschedule the debate after the speech.

But Boehner is resisting the date, suggesting next Thursday instead.

Oh, and next Thursday is NFL opening night…

@Dodgerblue:@nojo: Cheeseheads v Kingfishers. Boehner has dealt Barry a messy hand…

And the winner is… Thursday! Enjoy the game!

@nojo: Did he cave again? Lord God above, he is so squishy sometimes…

Wait – debate or speech is next week?

@JNOV: Debate Wednesday, Speech/NFL Thursday.

@nojo: My civic-mindedness only goes so far. If he doesn’t come out strong in the first minute, I’m switching to feetball and i’ll follow the liveblogging here.

If I have a job by Thursday, I’m watching the game speech at a bar.

@Dodgerblue: What liveblogging? I haven’t decided whether I give a shit about a speech everybody will forget the next day, and which will feature High Principles that will be quickly compromised the day after that.

On the other hand, Wednesday is Perry’s first debate. Which may be worth a purpose-built open thread.

@nojo: This is the kind of leadership that has made Mike Lee famous.

@Dodgerblue: Mike Lee is such a fucking douchenozzle of santorum.

nojo, OTOH, is awesome.

Almost as awesome as liveblogging Gov. GoodHair versus Crazee Eyes versus Mittens versus Paultard God would be. Will Newt be there? Who else? The China-loving non-practicing Mormon who accepts scientific theories? Will Talibunny be there?

@Dodgerblue: My Blogging Life for the past three years: Do I really give a shit about this? It’s an exacting standard, especially when faced with insufficiently salacious news about Bill O’Reilly.

Our Unicorn needs to grow a set of ovaries already:

“The Senate Historical Office knows of no instance in which Congress refused the president permission to speak before a joint session of Congress,” Betty K. Koed, associate historian with the Senate, said in an e-mail. “Permission to speak in a joint session is given by resolution of the House and Senate, and arrangements are made through the leadership offices of each chamber.”

White House officials held talks with Mr. Boehner’s office into the night Wednesday. At 9:17 p.m., the White House released a statement to the news media saying it had agreed to change the date to Sept. 8.

@SanFranLefty: Barry emails…

Frustrated

Today I asked for a joint session of Congress where I will lay out a clear plan to get Americans back to work. Next week, I will deliver the details of the plan and call on lawmakers to pass it.

After the subject line I thought it would reference today’s pissing match, but no luck. Instead, “I’m asking you to stand with me in calling on Congress to step up and take action on jobs” — by adding your name and email to the Obama campaign mailing list.

@nojo: It’s a fucking long con. I’m calling it: Barry is just another plutocrat. Fuck him.

@nojo: Please hold the photos of Perry fucking his male staffers until after he’s nominated.
