First They Came for Our Sanity, and We Said Nothing

John McCain is having a Bad Day:

Tea-party activists called McCain “out of touch” when the senator said he didn’t know about United Nations “Agenda 21.” One man described the initiative as a “takeover of the United States of America by taking over our farms.”

“First, our firearms, then our farms,” another man added.

Couple of things. First, we love the name “Agenda 21”. We can see a trailer featuring Matt Damon battling a conspiracy of nondescript men in fedoras terrorizing the world’s PowerPoint presentations.

Second: What the hell is Agenda 21?

As the UN describes it, “Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment.”

Okay, fine. But can you state that with a more sinister voice?

‘Sustainable Development’ sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of Social Justice/Socialism on the world.

At risk from Agenda 21;

  • Private Property ownership
  • Single-Family homes
  • Private car ownership and individual travel choices
  • Privately owned farms

The Agenda 21 plan openly targets private property.

Mix in a George Soros reference, and you have the take on Agenda 21 from Glenn Beck’s Blaze website. Which explains why some tinfoil-wielding yahoo in Arizona would know about it, while Psychogeezer — and us — are utterly clueless.

I knew it. Teabaggers are the same guys who bitch about black helos and FDA putting mind altering drugs in our soup.

If there’s one thing we don’t need right now it’s social justice.

BTW, apropos of the London situation, I stumbled across this:

The Grievances of the Plebs

BSG was right – this HAS all happened before. Though I don’t recall there ever being a Roman equivalent of teabaggers – that particular frothy mixture of blatant ignorance and astroturf may actually be unique to our time.

@al2o3cr:
Since the fall of communism… Strangely, the fear of those pesky Reds were what made capitalists do the right thing. Living wages, paying taxes, healthcare, pensions, etc.

Now we’re back to the days when pleebs rise up in anger.

Not surprised it happened in Britain.

Re: “Agenda 21” – if “out of touch” means not having an immediate comment about a 20 year old, non-binding UN resolution that nobody else beyond the people who staff the bloody thing (and maybe Iceland and Cameroon) care about – sorry Dodge – then I’m with Walnuts ™.

Do the ‘baggers even realize this was something Bush pere was in the seat for? Or that Maggie’s Drawers Thatcher herself cautioned about global warming back during her majesty?

I’ve flown in the black helicopters. They’re actually white, and usually contracted from (and flown by) the Canada City folks, unless they are Atanovs.

@Nabisco: The Baggers do not like Bush I, and are quite aware that he dealt the hand.
