Bouncy, Trouncy, Flouncy, Pouncy
“Rep. David Wu announced his resignation from Congress today, moments after U.S. senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden called for his resignation. The Democrat said in a statement that he would leave office after Congress resolves the debt ceiling crisis.” [Oregonian]
See Wu later.
Sort of sorry I started that Tigger thing …
@blogenfreude: I’m very impressionable.
What’s the difference between flouncing and mincing?
@Dodgerblue: Flouncing brings to mind a woman in petticoats. Mincing is what gay folks do isn’t it?
@Dodgerblue: Flouncing involves hand work and a certain flamboyance with the head. One needs to be well-dressed to pull it off. Does not work with sneaks. It can lead to skipping. Can be useful as a means of exiting a room in a huff to make a point. The Prince Flounce is brilliantly done by David Schwimmer in Friends. Doesn’t really work over an extended period of time. Best used as punctuation.
Mincing is what gays used to do back in the 50s. Before we all joined a gym and got into squats. It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen mincing done really well. I’m trying to revive it in a piece I’m working on. So far as women are concerned, the catwalk strut has sort of taken the place of mincing as the focus has moved from the feet to the hips. If you do want to try it, lead with the hips, keep the knees together and take small steps. Can be done over extended periods and is at its most effective when kept to a small scale. Still sometimes seen in art galleries.
@Benedick HRH KFC: You’re right, I have seen that (second para) in art galleries. I generally have about 1 1/2 hours in a gallery or museum before my back takes me down, so I tend to cover a lot of territory in large strides. I know I can always find my wife later in the gift shop.
@Benedick HRH KFC: Could lead to skipping dancing.
An excellent example of advanced flouncing.
@Benedick HRH KFC: The Joan Holloway walk — flouncing, mincing, or something completely different?
@mellbell: That’s related to the catwalk strut. You need a dress that’s tight around the knees to stop you stepping out so the woman looks constrained. At the same time it’s tits up and bum out for obvious reasons. Very high heels extend the leg and make the woman look even more helpless. This is not a walk that is seen anywhere but show business. It puts the woman on display sexually while at the same time emphasizing the fact that she is not a physical threat. Related to the hobble skirt which made it almost impossible for a woman to do anything but take tiny steps as she tried to keep up with the big strong man at her side.
