Yazoo City’s Twilight Zone

“‘I remember Martin Luther King came to town, in ’62. He spoke out at the old fairground and it was full of people, black and white,’ [Haley Barbour] said. But Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David Garrow told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger this week that records show no signs of any such appearance.” [TPM] Update: MLK did go to Yazoo in 1966. [Politico]

@ManchuCandidate:
Soon he’ll be reminiscing about his days as a SNCC volunteer, back in the day when civil rights and states rights went hand in hand.

Next thing you know he’ll be claiming to be the one said to Rosa Parks, “take it to the back of the bus, sister.”

Update tacked on: MLK visited Yazoo in 1966. Do we give Haley the benefit of the doubt?

Except what the update doesn’t tell you is that MLK’s visit to Yazoo was for a meeting with civil rights workers, not a public appearance, so it’s not “a relatively minor confusion of dates,” it’s bullshit.

Haley Barbour is a liar, and the truth won’t set him free.
