Well, That Explains [Insert Politician/Celebrity/Relative Here]
“Neanderthals mated with some modern humans after all and left their imprint in the human genome, a team of biologists has reported in the first detailed analysis of the Neanderthal genetic sequence.” [NYT]
This explains Greta Von Susteren.
@Tommmcat Still Gets Carly Confused With Meg: Still doesn’t explain Mann Coulter, though.
“Wanna check out my man cave? No, really, it’s an actual cave.”
“Ooooh, I love the horsies you drew on the wall . . . you’re sooo creative.”
And thus we see the first instance of the Neanderthal acting like Mr. Sensitive in order to score.
BREAKING: Start popping the popcorn, Gibbs said at the presser that the SCOTUS appointee will be announced “at any moment” and WH staff told Mike Allen that it’s Elena Kagan.
So Monday, the crucifixion and outing of Kagan will begin.
I have it on good authority that Mike Allen EATS LIVE BABIES AND WORSHIPS ALLAH.
@SanFranLefty: I’m just so pained that the President didn’t listen to the American People and instead opted to nominate this radical, socialistic, lesbian who has been a willing advocate of the ACLU and ACORN.
@SanFranLefty: Greenwald’s gonna be pissed.
according to the discovery channel its not the Neanderthal genes that make the politicians but the others. apparently we were the reason for their extinction and possibly even ate them.
they seemed sort of like some of the nice dumb people I went to school with.
sure, they used the same stone tools for tens of thousands of years but so what, we might not have had the Ipad.
big deal.
@nojo:
the scuttlebutt seems to be he will pick her but it all seems based on a Mike (twitchy boy) Allen story from Republico.
it feels fake to me. how surprising would it be given their recent history for someone from the WH to feed them some misinformation to make them look a little silly?
I still think it may be someone else.
@Capt Howdy: I have my money on two sleepers – Leah Ward Sears from Georgia or Sidney Thomas from the 9th Circuit (Montana).
@SanFranLefty:
I would be very surprised if it is not a woman.
@Capt Howdy: Which I think strengthens the case for Ward Sears. She’s not coming from the federal judiciary, she’s coming from the Georgia Supreme Court, and state court is a different experience set. Plus it would mean that Clarence Thomas is no longer the sole black person on the court.
@SanFranLefty:
most interesting.
interesting bit about Thomas. very interesting.
As speculation swirls about candidates on U.S. President Barack Obama’s list to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, administration officials have confirmed that at least one of the president’s top picks is a former State Supreme Court justice who would be the first black woman to sit on the country’s high court. Former Georgia Supreme Court Justice Leah Ward Sears, an expert in family law and the first black woman to serve as a State Supreme Court chief justice, was on the liberal Democratic president’s short list last year. A member of the liberal American Constitution Society, she is also a friend of conservative Justice Clarence Thomas.
Asst Interior Secretary John Echo Hawk for the SCt! Indian dude, former head of the Native American Rights Fund. Also a New Mexican and graduate of the non-elite New Mexico law school.
@redmanlaw: Dude, I nominate RML for the SCOTUS!
@Capt Howdy: You think those old white Republican Senators looked like assholes up against Sotomayor last year? Imagine watching them spending the summer pandering to the teabagger/birther/Tenther wing of their party and attack the first black woman ever nominated to the Court would alienate even more of the moderates of this country.
@SanFranLefty:
I think you just may be on to something.
@Capt Howdy: Yes, well, they’ll go after her for loving the gheyz:
When the court overturned Georgia’s antisodomy law in 1998, Chief Justice Sears’s concurring opinion enraged the religious right but struck the libertarian overtones that scholars say have defined her tenure. “To allow the moral indignation of a majority (or, even worse, a loud and/or radical minority) to justify criminalizing private consensual conduct,” she wrote, “would be a strike against freedoms paid for and preserved by our forefathers.”
wow
I think I just felt a Mattews tingle run up my leg.
@SanFranLefty: Never heard a her. I’m way out of touch.
@Capt Howdy: The neanderthals may have been gingers, yes, fair-skinned and freckled, with red hair. And probably not as brutish looking as the artists renderings we grew up with. Certain local characteristics among older european populations have long been speculated to be neanderthal-traces.
@Dodgerblue:
neither have I and I spend a lot of time on a blog that focuses on this stuff.
which almost makes the case for me. I have been thinking whoever it was would be someone almost no one was expecting.
@Dodgerblue and @Capt Howdy:
Some of her areas of expertise are areas in which I practice, that’s the only reason I know of her. I’ve heard her speak before, and she’s incredibly passionate about the issue of access to justice for the poor and for children.
For Crissake, they need someone who has no affiliation with HLS.
@Prommie:
Like my fat ass, for example.
@Dodgerblue: Heh. The Great White Dope, had a face only his cutman could love.
Do ya have a little Neanderthal in you? Wouldja like some?
