John McCain to Newsweek: “I never considered myself a maverick.”

New Ad Calls McCain ‘The Original Maverick’ [NYT, 8/5/2008]

I think he’s losing it. And I mean that clinically. He seems almost as confused as did Reagan.

One of the bad things about being a naval aviator is landing on a carrier deck. It is basically a controlled crash that takes you from 120 knots to 0 in less than 4 seconds. It wasn’t so bad in the prop age because the planes weren’t so fast unlike the jet age. All this isn’t very good for the brain (concussions.) Like playing football or hockey (which is why I’m glad I sucked at sport.) Or like what happened to Muhammad Ali.

@ManchuCandidate: Did he make that many landings? Didn’t he mostly just crash?

Yes, but considering he’s not all smart, it probably didn’t take much.

agreed. he really seems to be losing it.

and newsflash gramps, no one else believed you were a maverick either.

Next up: “Vietnam? Never been there! Those grainy photos were taken on a soundstage in Dallas.”
