Fight Ducks Fight!

Forgive us, Mallard Drake.A few weeks back, a player from our hometown college team got in the first punch of the season following a loss to the Famous Potatoes of Boise State. Big deal — Oregon’s mascot has been in better fights than that. And Stanford’s band puts them all to shame.

So you’ll forgive us if we don’t cry in our Disney-licensed Duck Towel. Especially when we’ve been spending the morning figuring out the damn keg tap for today’s Stinque Tailgate. We have no idea who’s playing who. And with luck, by noon we’ll be too drunk to care.

Heh heh heh, the Dodgers lost to the Giants last night.

Texas has a big football game against Texas Tech. Tech beat them in the last minutes of their game last year which resulted in UT not getting into the national championship game.

Oh, Nojo. The LSJUMB Spotted Owl show. I heart you.

DEVELOPING HARD: Mittens at Values Voters thingy now. I clicked on C-SPAN just for a snippet, and the first words I heard the guy say was “…fake Greek columns.” And now into an America Does No Wrong bit, followed by Free Enterprise For Those Who Can Pay. Boring, really.

Man. The GOP so wants a replay of 2008. Odd thing is that they want to bring even more of the crazy — which is kind of what sunk them last time around. And, more to the point: what sunk Mittens.

Last night Rachel told me that my New York Jets are in the top 5 NFL teams that donate to the GOP. I am not amused.

Arrrgooos!!!

Eh? Wrong football?

Go Gaels! My school’s team name is the Golden Gaels which shockingly leads to a lot of abuse from other skules. Especially when golden showers entered the lexicon. The Gael part doesn’t help much either and I don’t know why *rolls eyes*

The last time my school football team was relevant in Canada City, I was a dumbass undergrad.

ManchuCandidate: 110 yard fields are SOCIALIST.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks welcome Alex Ovechkin & Fiends tonight in the preseason home opener.

@SanFranLefty: . . . which also resulted in Michael Crabtree acting like God’s Gift, pouting over his pittance of a $20 million/4 year contract with the help of his loser cousin as his mouthpiece.

The UNM (University of New Mexico/University of Near Mommy) Loblows – er Lobos – will go down in flames this afternoon to the Zoomies from tha Air Force Academy. The Mountain West Conference is so shitty a conference that a fucking service academy is considered a powerhouse here. We’re all about the Texas Tech-Lefty Homeland game tonight, but we have no illusions that TX is the better team and is likely to humiliate the Red Raiders on national teevee esta noche.

Lame ass day at the range. Excessive gin consumption after hours may have altered my ability to hit the vital area on my target at 200 yards, which is actually really valuable information for the elk hunt next month. The short range (7 m/21 ft) handgun shooting is almost second nature now, however.

Pulling for Cal over Minnesota now, which is what I was watching whilst downing my huevos con chili rojo. Mmmmm.

We’re pulling for the beloved USC Trojans in the student-vs-mentor match-up at U-Dub. (Jake Locker is probably the best QB the Trojans will face all year, and Sarkisian knows the squad inside out.)

I’m calling a Texas Tech upset over the Longhorns in Austin. Why? Because it’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, and Mike Leach is a big fan of pirates. Yarr, bitches.

@Signal to Noise: Flying Karamazov Brothers:

Yarrr!

Yarrr not!

Yarrr too!

Nothing beats bad puns and juggling.

@Signal to Noise: The Cal game is a shootout. I think Dodger the Double Bruin may be on the road today.

A Tech upset would be cool, but I’m not betting the farm on it. Besides, the Georgia O’Keefe movie (NYC interiors were actually shot a block from my office in Santa fe) premieres on Lifetime tonight. Her hubby Tony Lujan from the ancestral home was the first Indian in the village to have a car, my dad says.

Sigh, I have no team to root for from my undergraduate days. My alma mater’s program, the Fighting Missionaries (sounds better than Culturally Insensitive Proselytizers), dropped football due to consistenly losing. That’s what happens when you have linemen who were philosophy majors .

At least Ichiro got a walkoff homerun against the Yankees last night.

@Jesuswalksinidaho: Mine, too. “Undefeated since 1971,” as they say.

@Jesuswalksinidaho: My undergrad school didn’t have a football team. Maybe that’s why I kept going to school – to pick up teams to root for.

@Signal to Noise: You’re rooting for the University of $poiled Children? Oy, vey. Good thing Dodger’s still in the woods of Canada.

@chicago bureau: I’m scared to think of the whipping The Farm might get from San Josie State tonight.

/off to be a consumer and buy an iPhone! Liveblogging for Stinque will be so much easier now.

@SanFranLefty: I just got the Black Berry Storm a couple of weeks ago when I upgraded with Verizon. Still learning how to use it. Nothing like getting spam up on the mountain side.

@SanFranLefty: both of my parents taught there (so I was pulling for them at a young age, and even during the awful Paul Hackett years) and I went to college at a very lowly D-III school. If you don’t attend a D-IA football factory, you root for the locals you grew up with.

Just checked the ZotZine and it appears the mighty Anteaters men’s water polo team, ranked 7th this year, just beat Cal State Long Beach this morning and is taking on SC this afternoon. Good times, good times. ::ahem::

Is Oregon wearing a Rollerball uniform today?

@redmanlaw: U of O is always testing the new fabrics and designs for Nike, so their uniforms can be weird. Mr. SFL (Duck alum) doesn’t like the wings on the shoulders. They lucked out with that interception after the Utah interception.

Hey, hey, Huskies! (back just in time for the upset)

ADD: Washington coach is dumber than a sack of hammers, eh?

ADD2: I lurv my iPhone, Lefty, may you as well. However, today it mysteriously decided not to accept or receive calls. Had to do a hard reboot, second time in as many months. Strange.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: I am loving U-Dub right now for this upset.

Mr. SFL just said as the U of O v. Utah game wound down: “Too bad, Mormons, you should have prayed harder.”

ADD: Loving the iPhone. Have been playing with it for 2 hours instead of doing the document review I should be doing.

@SanFranLefty: Ma Nabisco may actually let me watch Texas v. Tech tonight. We generally limit the Sport on the tele, but I’ve been whining all week that the Stillers won’t be broadcast here that she’s sympathetic.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: Besides when they have the aerial shots of Austin and the sun setting over Town Lake and the Hill Country, you can point out your old stomping grounds and watering holes to her and the kids. A friend of mine went two-stepping at the Broken Spoke last week, it made me so nostalgic.

@SanFranLefty: Funny story: 1995, first time future Ma visits the US and one of our stops is Austin. First summer camp of the Cowboys there as well. We’re sitting at Quackenbushes over coffee, she hears someone drawl “hey, the Cowboys are in town” and her eyes got bigger than saucers.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!, Lefty: Mrs RML, as you may recall, is a very proud alum of Texas Tech.

Hmmm. It’s clear who the refs like tonight. Nice run by Batch.

tj/Holeeee Crap – you all see the Edwards stuff on HuffPo?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/19/john-edwards-close-to-dec_n_292380.html

@redmanlaw: It’s on the NYT, too!!!

How could she survive living in a dry county for four years?

@redmanlaw: Heh heh on Tech. Shipley is an amazing player, and overshadowed by McCoy.

@SanFranLefty: Early Tech momentum looks gone, Horns are swarming on D.

@redmanlaw: That’s cold shit about Johnny Mill. He pulled a Full Rudy!

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: The Horns are on fire!

RE: Benedick’s boyfriend Johnny Millllll: I think he even went beyond a full Rudy – 9u11ani never (as far as we know) sired a kid and then made an aide take the fall and try to falsify a DNA report.

My heart breaks for his wife and kids (including the one sired with the alien lady). Such fucking humiliation. I would disown my father if he did something like that to my mom in our private world, but to have it all over the news….what a fucker to put his kids and wife through that..

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: That’s unfair to trial lawyers. Never trust an ambulance chaser with perfect hair.

@redmanlaw: Agreed. And Lefty, the hair angle hit me after I hit ‘send’. It’s harder editing comments on the Phone…

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: I got Tech on TV, UNM on the radio in the kitchen and the webz going. I really should be sweeping the floor or doing some reloading or something.

UNM is down 24-6 at the half to the Air Force Academy.

@redmanlaw: Sorry your guys are losing to the born again Christofacist pilots in Colorado Springs.

@redmanlaw and The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: Yeah, I actually like DMB because I was seeing him play in Virginia bars before he hit it big, but for some reason that little detail of the fantasized second marriage – the fact that he actually had put that much thought into the new wedding that would occur once Elizabeth died – that’s what moved the douchenozzle needle to 11.

I wish Elizabeth to live long and beat that fucking cancer so that she can be 80 years old and channel her inner ChainSaw and say “Still waiting for me to die, motherfucker?”

@redmanlaw: I hve The Game on the tube and my 6 y.o. bleeding my ears with Hannah Montana songs for some party sh’s going to tomorrow. Thumbing the net on my phone, and catching up on past Stinque threads. Now Im texting as well with an old friend sitting in Tx Memorial Stadium. I think it’s time for a Penn Pilsner.

@SanFranLefty: Yeah, that pick helped. I got distracted by so….SHIT!

@SanFranLefty: Johnny Miiiiiillllls’ douchebag score is currently topping the philandering politician charts. He, the alien, and the scum who wrote that book are all so revolting that I have no words. He really is just a slimy little white trash mill-hill ambulance chaser.

@redmanlaw: For the record, the Stillers play this kind if D with only three guys up front but still, awesome.

@Mistress Cynica: I’m glad to say that a recent check of the opensecrets.org data base shows that I did not actually give money to him as I thought.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: That onside kick by Tek in the 3rd has got to be the most boneheaded call of the day, right up there with checking facebook during a burglary.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: As I was saying before I got distracted, you guys have been fucking prolific the last few days. I have to get a job so I can spend more time here during the day.

@redmanlaw: But I’m loving the “rugby kicker” on UT. Several guys I went to high school with who were my fellow soccer nerds actually wound up doing kicks for some well known universities.
And I’m with you w/r/t donations to Johnny Millll.
@Mistress Cynica: Yeah, there are no words for that shit. Makes me so mad that he was the only one talking about poverty and inequality.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: I find I spend more time on Stinque when I’m in the office.

Here I am. Mother fucking Tech.

Where’s Jamie?!? I need someone to hold my hand during this game. Nabisco?

@SanFranLefty: OpenSecrets doesn’t show the money I shoveled to Unicorn last year. Did I slip below a reporting cutoff?

@nojo: Probably not. Go to FundRace.com off of HuffPo and I bet you’re there. I’m there with the $400 I gave to Unicorn (which seemed like so much more at the time).

ADD: Linque:
http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com/

@SanFranLefty: I’m here. My friend in the stdium stopped her updates…must be nuts there.

@SanFranLefty: Not there either, although my zip code coughed up almost $400,000 across the board.

I think I topped out at $200 over multiple installments. Which is $200 more than I’ve handed to a politician in my life.

@The Nabisco Quiver are Go!: Yeah, your friend is embracing my friend on the corner of Red River and 18th right now

Speaking of Dodger, he half-jokingly suggested we hold tailgates for the béisbol playoffs and series. The series I can understand — but is there enough interest here to open threads for the whole damn post-season?

@SanFranLefty: And what happened today? When UCLA wins, USC loses, the Dodgers beat the Gnats, and I take two United flights and my bag doesn’t get lost, this is a good day in the DB household.

I’m back from a great week on Vancouver Island. Did I miss anything?

Hey Manchu, great country you got there. Really nice people. Please don’t let the mining, timber and energy companies fuck it up.
