Something tells me the Agenda 21 freakouts would dry up pretty quick but for the fact that “central planning” is no longer acceptable as a euphemism for “ni-CLANGs not welcome to live here”.

Another “book” by someone who buys up an author’s effort and twists it into his/her agenda and publishes. Or, another financial vehicle to funnel the ignorant believer’s money into a bat-shit-crazy black hole.

My organization works on smart growth planning and implementation. I wish we were anything close to as effective as this “author” and her fellow-traveling tinfoil hat crowd believe.

Dunno what the initial print run was, but books like this, and particularly Regnery shit, are generally either remaindered or bought by the wingnut “think” tanks that employ the wingnut authors. My guess is that if you got all the people together who have read this book cover-to-cover you’d have trouble filling a standard-sized movie theater.

@blogenfreude: Don’t know whether Amazon is immune from the bulk-buying trick, but since the Top 100 is updated hourly, and I typically look for titles Saturday morning, the bulks would need to be bought Friday to show up. Which, week after week, year after year, would be a wee problematic.

More likely — since I’ve been doing this four years — the wingnut Top 100 titles were pitched on wingnut radio or something the Friday before.

It’s not the same as NYT bestsellers, which poll a broad range of booksellers the previous week, and so scoop up those bulk buys. Amazon is more the pulse of the moment, which makes the listing more legit for my purposes.

Bought? Yes. Read? No way to tell.
