From The People Who Brought You Last Year’s Conspiracy, and The Dozen or Two Conspiracies Before That

Title: “Agenda 21”

Authors: Glenn Beck and Harriet Parke

Rank: 11

Blurb: “Just a generation ago, this place was called America. Now, after the worldwide implementation of a UN-led program called Agenda 21, it’s simply known as ‘the Republic.’ There is no president. No Congress. No Supreme Court. No freedom. There are only the Authorities.”

Co-Author Blurb: “Harriet Parke is a registered nurse who specialized in emergency nursing and Emergency Department management. She has been published in My Dad Is My Hero anthology, five Voices from the Attic anthologies (published by Carlow University, Pittsburgh, Pa.), the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and Pittsburgh Magazine. She has received an honorable mention from an Atlantic Monthly student short fiction writing contest. She is a member of The Madwomen, a Carlow University writing group, and a member of Pennwriters. A wild peacock roosts on her deck anytime he chooses.”

Review: “As the organizer of the SFBay 912 Project and a member of the National 912 Advisory Board (google 912 Project Agenda 21), I was given an advanced copy of the book. For the past two years I have been educating people about the 25 year plan that is being developed in the SFBay Area called the One Bay Area Plan or Plan Bay Area. The Plan combines land use, transportation, and housing. It is being developed by unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats. This is top down, central planning. This is a real program, not fiction. This is AGENDA 21 masquerading under the terms Sustainable Communities Strategies, Smart Growth, Sustainable Development. There are similar plans all across the country. I appeared on The Blaze TV on November 19 to discuss our efforts to resist. I am a private citizen but a former USAF officer. I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and it is being trampled on and shredded by this type of planning. It is critical that average citizens start speaking up. Please educate yourself on this topic, get involved, join the resistance. Help restore America.”

Adding subtext…

Just a generation ago, this place was called America there was a guy named Bill Clinton in power and many of us RWers proclaimed it was the end of the world. Now, after the worldwide implementation of a UN-led program called Agenda 21 because there is a not white preznit with a funny name and a DEMRAT we updated the paranoid idea that an organization of well meaning but corrupt bunglers has some supreme authority over US Amercia because we know that our audience is stupid and doesn’t read anything but RW bullshit, it’s simply known as ‘the Republic.’ There is no president. No Congress. No Supreme Court. No freedom.Much like our fear of teh ghey, we project onto others what we want to do because we’re control freaks who less than secretly want to be There are only the Authorities.”

Something tells me the Agenda 21 freakouts would dry up pretty quick but for the fact that “central planning” is no longer acceptable as a euphemism for “ni-CLANGs not welcome to live here”.

Another “book” by someone who buys up an author’s effort and twists it into his/her agenda and publishes. Or, another financial vehicle to funnel the ignorant believer’s money into a bat-shit-crazy black hole.

My organization works on smart growth planning and implementation. I wish we were anything close to as effective as this “author” and her fellow-traveling tinfoil hat crowd believe.

Dunno what the initial print run was, but books like this, and particularly Regnery shit, are generally either remaindered or bought by the wingnut “think” tanks that employ the wingnut authors. My guess is that if you got all the people together who have read this book cover-to-cover you’d have trouble filling a standard-sized movie theater.

@blogenfreude: Don’t know whether Amazon is immune from the bulk-buying trick, but since the Top 100 is updated hourly, and I typically look for titles Saturday morning, the bulks would need to be bought Friday to show up. Which, week after week, year after year, would be a wee problematic.

More likely — since I’ve been doing this four years — the wingnut Top 100 titles were pitched on wingnut radio or something the Friday before.

It’s not the same as NYT bestsellers, which poll a broad range of booksellers the previous week, and so scoop up those bulk buys. Amazon is more the pulse of the moment, which makes the listing more legit for my purposes.

Bought? Yes. Read? No way to tell.

Glenn Beck lives down the road from where Trans-Canada, a furrin company building keystone xl pipeline, is taking land by eminent domain and hiring rent-a-cops to spray elderly lady landowners in the face with pepper spray. Howz come his panties aren’t in a knot over this?
