BREAKING: Dems Actually Do Something(ish)

So the Senate bill is passed, and on to Black Eagle for signature. Reconciliation bill is off to the Senate for voting, or further tomfoolery. Open thread to gloat in a mild victory for dirty liberals.

Major victory, flawed bill. If it doesn’t deliver, Dems are in deep doodoo.

Plugz is there with Black Eagle at the podium now. Why — no man can say.

@redmanlaw: That’s von Karajan – they cleaned up his Nazi past so he could conduct Berlin Philharmoniker. Listen to his Rossini overtures … great recording.

High praise for Barry the high stakes poker player. I don’t want to play him for real money. As much as people were critical of him, the guy knew the what was stake for the end game and nothing phased him. Never lost his shit, never publicly freaked out on his team (that’s what Rahm is for) and never never never let the GOPers throw him off his game. Showed this guy and his team can play hardball with the best of them.

MSM completely fucked the dog again by under estimating him, again.

If this were really a war, Barry’s closer to George C Marshall, not a hard charging stomping swearing Patton so beloved by the MSM. Utterly cerebral and 8 steps ahead.

Yes, I know the bill doesn’t go far enough (cough, single payer, cough) but it is a start. One thing I learned at an early age, it is sometimes better to get the 1/2 or 1/3 of a loaf than no loaf at all.

@CB

“Somethingish”??? C’mon man – revel in your time! They really did something tonight. No question. No qualification. Nobody can take that away from them. And nobody did a better a job of articulating exactly what they did then Dennis Kucinich:

“This bill represents a giveaway to the insurance industry… $70 billion a year, and no guarantees of any control over premiums, forcing people to buy private insurance.” – Dennis Kucinich

Barry’s still plugging away at working-togetherness. Man. He has learned nothing from this last year, has he?

libertarian tool: But look at what he coulda had, if he had stepped on the gas a year ago, and not with all the concessions in re Ladybits.

But still: a big fat W for the Obamaplex, from which Hope still radiates which can only be brought about by Change We Can Believe In. No doubt about that, ’tis true.

Good talk by Obama, although I would have preferred some gloating.

@chicago bureau:
He’s playing the grandiose magnanimous winner card. Win-win for him. Looks good to those who still like “sportsmanship” and “civility” in politics (usually independents.) Welcomes those two or three GOPers who actually want to do something besides say No. And makes the other GOPers look like utter sore losers/dicks as they keep slapping away Barry’s friendship gestures.

@blogenfreude: Ah, yes, from ze V-2 program at Peenemünde . . . und ze Vril Society efforts witz our . . .tall, skinny “friends” . . .

@Dodgerblue: Black Eagle going grey – how long until fucking assholes post peechers of our President as Uncle Ben?

BTW, one of my buddys has lunch last week with a gun blogger I raised racist concerns about. Blogger says hi to me. I repond that liberals are arming up. Well, one, but still . . .

@Dodgerblue: Yeah, they could have placed a net in the East Room, so he could dunk a shot.

And here’s John Boehner with Clark Kellogg to talk about the game —

C. KELLOGG: Thanks, Greg. Coach, your thoughts on this loss tonight by the GOP?

J. BOEHNER: Well, the guys in the locker room are disappointed, obviously. But, first, I want to give the glory to my Lord and Saviour for the blessings He’s bestowed on me, my team and on the Ladybits of millions of virtuous Americans. As for the performance: our defense did a tremendous job, but the Dems fought through it. Full credit to them.

KELLOGG: That motion to recommit at the end? Did you think that was going to work?

BOEHNER: Well, that was a last-ditch effort, naturally, but we’ve used it in the past, and we really have succeeded with it. But it just wasn’t… (chokes up with tears) — it simply wasn’t enough.

KELLOGG: A tough loss, a valiant effort — thanks, Coach.

BOEHNER: Thank (tears up again) — you.

@chicago bureau: The Man said it’s not perfect and that we needs to work on it.

/bone thrown and caught for a first down

@redmanlaw: It’s a W. I’m going to bed and plan to enjoy a day o’gloating tomorrow.

Outstanding Player of the Tournament: Bart Stupak. Hands down. He fucking delivered for his crazy, wingbat constituency and made the difference in the end… for himself, his party, uninsured Americans, and — of course — a world of honest, virtuous and clean Ladybits.

Michael Steele: “Today, America witnessed the first vote for the end of representative government.”

Yeah, baby, give it to me good.

In a Blazing Saddles Context:

Mongo = Scott Brown
Candygram = Jobs Bill
Gang of Pugs Thugs = Teabaggers
Hedley Lamarr = John Boner

nojo: Over-under on Reichstag Fire references — six days.

blogenfreude: From that string of tweets, this is SO BESTEST:

“Judas is now giving his presser explaining why he took the 40 pieces of silver.”

Thirty. THIRTY!

Right-wing Twittistan can fucking suck it.

Speaking of Right-wing Twittistan — here’s our old friend, K-Lo:

Congratulations, Democrats. Beginning now, you own the health-care system in America. Every hiccup. Every complaint. Every long line. All yours.

Yes. And is there anything else you’d like to say?

Out of this clusterfuck, there is this truth: the uninsured will be a voting bloc for the Dems. Half of them won’t show up, as is standard for the population at-large. The rest of them? Breaking 60-40, or perhaps better, for the Dems after this. (As will the Latinos you continue to alienate. But that’s next month.)

The more I think about it — this may save the Dems’ majority this time around and pay dividends for the next generation, kind of like Social Security and Medicare has bailed out the Dems from a complete steamrollering in decades past.

@chicago bureau: Saw the tweet, but failed to get the error … thanks.

And the Democrats… win.

I’ll never get used to the sound of that.

@blogenfreude: I am just a treasure trove of BASIC FUCKING KNOWLEDGE.

(BTW: Just added “The Jackal” sequence from the West Wing to the post. I’m sure it’s going down tonight in Gibbs’s office right now.)

@chicago bureau:
A decent HC system makes people more LW. Seriously.

Hell, yeah. An ex sent me an invite to a FB Canada City HC sucks group. I promptly dumped that off. My recent surgery has improved my opinion of the system.

Took a look at the group. Mostly made up of white self entitled self absorbed investor banker type shitheads with names like Dylan, Jordan, James and Jared. Fuck that.

@chicago bureau: Plus, I think the Rebublicants overplayed this, I really do. All this shreiking about the end of our freedums and outright racial slurs and general overblown lies ia going to hurt them with the independents.

All the hate, gnashing of teeth and vitriol and crazy bull-shit from the right…Immigration Reform up next…you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Also, Liz Carpenter, a thoughtful and great Texan died this weekend. She was a champion for equal rights for women and a witness to history. God rest her soul.

texrednface: Heard about that in passing while on vacay in Arizona. As I send White Light in that general direction: tell us more in order to give her a proper send-off.

TPM: Barry signs Senate Bill on Tuesday. Scratch whatever TPM said earlier about Reconciliation passing the Senate first.

@Tommmcatt Loves The Giant Floating Head: They placed a high-stakes bet and lost. But they could just as easily have won. It only looks overplayed when HCR passes.

@Tommmcatt Loves The Giant Floating Head: If only the Demrats would put the awful behavior in ads … tie them up explaining their behavior, and they have no time to campaign.

@blogenfreude: Yes, well, but, still Democrats. Would be nice if they did, though.

BREAKING: I finally got the “LARPstock” joke in Frisky Dingo.

Carry on.

New post up – I need you to go to David Frum’s website and beat him about the head and face.

@chicago bureau:
Liz was one of those great Texas mavens. She was a reporter, author, assistant to V P Lyndon Johnson, then Lady Bird’s Press secretary. Smart lady who help found the National Women’s Political Caucus Fought for the ERA. I mentioned her because Texas is looking pretty silly right now. Our state has had some shining lights though.
Also, Stewart Udall died this weekend. Some great old thinkers are dying and taking all the brains with them.

@texrednface: She was a real hoot who cursed and drank like a sailor and truly cared about people. I was lucky enough to get to go to a little get-together at her house with some of her other equally funny and liberal female friends, it was memorable.

There was a real crop of those tough-as-nails liberal Texas women…Barbara Jordan, Ann, Molly, Lady Bird, and Liz….Sarah Weddington is about the last one standing.

@SanFranLefty: Speaking of St Molly, apparently Kathleen Turner is doing a one-woman show based on Molly’s life/writings that is currently in previews in Philly or Bal’more or someplace like that.
