Called in to a radio show once to ask him a piano-practice question, but the segment ended while I was on hold. He must have seen the question on the monitor, because the producer picked up the phone, told me to hold on, and handed Hamlisch the phone. He spent 5 minutes giving me a very detailed answer off the air. A real mensch.

@Mistress Cynica: and the funny thing was he sounded nervous … talking to ME! Clipped yet continuous, and he headed down every dead end before concluding his answer to my question.
