Romney Campaign Generously Provides Compelling Meme for Opponents

“Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.” —Romney Communications Director Eric Fehrnstrom, explaining how everybody will forget what Mitt is saying today. [ThinkProgress]

Once I get nominated I’ll stop pandering to the wingnuts and start pandering to the rest of you. Just tell me what you want to hear and I’ll say it in my next speech. If you try to pin me down with one of those liberal media gotcha questions I’ll either lie or ignore you–whatever you seem most comfortable with. I’m doing this for you.

Will anyone under the age of 35 know what is an Etch a Sketch?

It’s like a prehistoric iPad!

@Dodgerblue: I absolutely loved Etch A Sketch, Magna Doodle, and that other popular drawing toy thing (you used a stylus like a Magna Doodle, but it had bright colors, and you lifted up the cover to erase — whatever it was called).

@mellbell: Yes, I know that toy you mean, lifting the cover to erase. Can’t think of the name either. We have an Etch-A-Sketch here in the office that I play with.

@DElurker: I really wanna see the automated system that generated that URL.

Everyone knows etch-a-sketch because of Will Ferrell in Elf. He introduced a new generation of kids to them.

@SpongeBobtheBuilder: Hadn’t thought of that, but it’s true. That movie is, if you’ll pardon the oxymoron, a new classic.

@Dodgerblue: The name is “Magic Slate”

@stickler: That doesn’t ring a bell, but this is more or less what I’m thinking of (minus the weird keyboard part), so maybe that’s right.

@Jesuswalksinidaho: I’m good with that. I mean – given what he is saying now, it’s kind of comforting to know that it’s written on an etch-a-sketch.
