“The Tebow mania sweeping the nation sacked a group of Long Island high-school students who were suspended for mimicking the quarterback’s famous prayer pose… Administrators said the weeklong ‘Tebowing’ craze was a distraction and a hallway hazard after dozens of classmates followed their lead.” [NY Post]

What’s a Tebow?*

*kidding I know who he is, but don’t care too much about it to make more than a smart ass comment.

@ManchuCandidate: I’m not much into the “Jesus Loves Me/The Lord is Working Through Tim Tebow” aspect of this, but for the first time in years being a Bronco fan is not just a life of pain.

@redmanlaw: i need demaryius thomas to go off for me in my fantasy league playoffs, replacing greg jennings. remember travis henry? he and denvers punter and middle lb played at tennessee. tebow put the fuck up on us for 4 straight years, so i grew to hate him. but the dude is 7-1 after 8 nfl games, so credit must go where credit is due. to the broncos defense.

@jwmcsame: The pressure’s all on Brady & Co. to put the beat down on the Big D by 10-14 points. Anything closer than that midway through the 4th quarter and the Bronx can catch up. A close New England win (anything less than the margin in the 1935 Italy v. Ethiopia contest) or any Denver win keeps the Tebow narrative going. I just like seeing my Broncos win some games for a change, although I do not expect them to win on Sunday. That and Chicago were the only tough games I saw on the schedule for the rest of the year.

Playoffs this year? Yes. How far? Win one, lose the next. I say let him start next year and let’s see how far this thing goes. We’re talking about a unique phenomenon here on the order of Flubber.

What I hear/read when people talk/write football: “Blah blah blabbity blah blah.”

@karen marie has her eyes tight shut: When I hear people talking about fashion, theater, sex, politics, music, religion, I think “what can I learn?”

There is more to Sport than brutality and the contest. Having never played any myself*I came to it through stories on drugs, injuries and contracts. I think the biggest story in Sport now, like politics, is corruption. But Sport is a form of expression. One could argue that attacking quarterbacks, shutting down receivers and running backs has its own set of asthetics from the design of a defense to the individual flow of muscles and mass to flow past a protective screen has its own beauty.

There’s some good books on football. There’s Instant Replay by Jerry Kramer on the way old school Green Bay Packers under Vince Lombardi. I also likedJohn Feinstein’s “Next Man Up” and “The Blind Side” by Michael Lewis.

Even an esthete can like Spoet.

Google up “Right in Two” when you’re ready.

*Skiing, backpacking, hunting and shooting are not Sport as traditionally defined, but I train for them as hard as anything I might face in the legal arena. I knew when to set my edges and when to glide over hardpack when I bombed a run for fun last weekend. I know my holdover on a .308 rifle at 320 yards.

@redmanlaw: One of my former Creative Partners was a placekicker on his state-winning high school team. In Pennsylvania.

So, unlike me, he can actually watch a play unfolding and know what the fuck is going on, beyond Big Dudes Bashing Other Big Dudes. Not that he cares any more.

But I read the other day that the NFL doesn’t want you to know what the fuck is going on — that they regard full-field shots as closely guarded intellectual property. So the televised game action is all uninformative close-ups.

This apparently pisses off serious fans. Which obviously doesn’t include me, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

@redmanlaw: if you really believe in the possibility of advancement of humans

See, that’s the kind of thing I have to accept on faith, because Lord knows the evidence is often lacking.

@nojo: Huh? Wha?

/been busy scoring TOOL TICKETS!!!!!!!!

Mas vino blanco, goddammit!

@nojo: Right in Two is your song, then.

So I was looking at the Tool fan page when I saw references to a January show in Vegas, Widened my search and saw a show in ABQ, Got three tix – me, Son of RML and My Oldest Friend in the World if she’s free. Watch this space if anything frees up.

ADD: Looks like the tour was confirmed only 18 hours ago.
