The Shape of Stings to Come

“With most of the 18.4-cent tax per gallon of gasoline set to expire Sept. 30, renewing the tax could be the next political controversy to spark a brawl in an ever more deeply divided Capitol Hill.” [Politico]

Please, can’t we recover from the debt-limit doomsday scenario first before we jump ahead to the next Tea Bag assault on the nation? Besides, you’re skipping past the FAA tempest that is already costing us $30 million per day over something like a $16 million droplet in the budget bucket.

It struck me a little while ago that our most recent pissing contest in Washington is just government as usual. It seems so major right now because we’ve been bombarded with it, maybe to distract everyone from the brutal heat most of the country suffered in July. In a hundred years will anyone remember the 2011 debt ceiling debate? More likely our descendents will be wondering why the Congress fiddled with trivia while the world was beginning to burn.

@Dave H: I’ve also let Pam Geller slip past, which is really frustrating, but a dude’s gotta make choices.

I’ve just got Mozart’s Requiem on endless repeat. It’s pretty fitting, really.

@Dave H:

You’ve got a better outlook on it then me – I think they’ll be looking back admiring the amazing efforts of future-Pontifex-Maximus Bachmann and her brave band of “patriots” against a horde of evil Demoncrats (who all, oddly, are dressed in rainbow turbans and having wild butt-secks while chanting “Praise Allah, and RAISE TAXES!’).

Of course, they’ll be discussing this as a prelude to the inevitable “who has to leave the cave to go get dinner” argument – winners may write history, but they’ll still have to LIVE in the consequences…

That money’s just for highways. Who needs roads anyway?

@Jesuswalksinidaho: Or who needs safe airplanes right now? So glad the GOP has put at least 70,000 construction workers across the country out of work, is forcing airport staff to work without pay, and foregoing $200 million+ a week in airline taxes to make a point over the $160 million a year it costs to subsidize flights to ass-fuck Amerika, and oh, that’s right, the real reason the teabaggers are holding their breath and stomping their feet, to make things easier for Delta Airlines to crush unionization efforts.

Can the Zapata quote become a permanent tagline so long as Obambi plays Chamberlain to the Tea Party?
