Papa Haydn

He was Mozart’s teacher, and he was probably the greatest orchestrator the world has known.  Oh, and he was Beethoven’s teacher as well. Here’s his Symphony 100 (!) finale, played at about the correct tempo (in my mind):

Excellent post! I really miss the days when C&L’s Late Night Music Club actually offered quality music for me to explore.

Thank you, Blogenfruede! I now have a new artist to study.

i always thought Salieri was Mozart’s teacher–before he poisoned him out of jealousy. no? ok…..

@baked: All that stuff about M and Salieri is untrue. I seem to remember that M died of cholera. His last year was also his best as far as income was concerned. There was no unmarked grave, he wasn’t a pauper. Salieri was the court composer to Joseph II. Very successful in his day. Makes a good story, though.

Lovely music. The tingling percussion at the end makes me think of toothpaste. And also the tingling in my pants.

@baked: Mozart met Beethoven once and said he would “make a great sound in the world” someday.
