The White House has released the following statement:

For Immediate Release
Barack Obama, President
Re: the firing of Gen. Stanley McChrystal
6/23/2010

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I wonder if Stan decided to go all out and do his version of Col Jessup from a Few Good Men… ” You can’t handle the truth!”

TJ/ we got a little tremor in the Toronto Area. Can we bond over earfquake stories??

The Guardian is live-blogging the event. Love this:

Still waiting on Obama. Retired general on Fox calls McChrystal “an American hero” and then lapses into sentences entirely made up of cliches: “He should have been taken to the woodshed and then sent back out there to take this thing across the goal line.”

Retired general then says he’s glad that Rolling Stone reporters weren’t at their “cigar nights” out there in Kabul. They have “cigar nights”?

@ManchuCandidate: 3.0? We’ll seat you at the kids table.

ADD: Sure that wasn’t a UPS delivery?

@Mistress Cynica: I am sure they are drunken freak outs with officers vocalizing elaborate schemes to take out Obama and erect a jesufascist theocracy.

@FlyingChainSaw: I’m with you on this one. Cigar nights would involve elaborate plots to kill the president and replace him with someone who’s a bit more white and friendly to the military. That is to say, someone who’ll approve yet-bigger budgets for GUNS, HUGE FUCKING GUNS!

@Mistress Cynica: Are those Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky “cigar nights”?

@IanJ: Oh, no, just replace him with a military plenipotentiary. When they get into their fourth scotch, they’ll be raving about genocidal cleansing of catholics, mexicans, negroes, asians, non-protestants, etc., annexing Mexico and Canada and commandeering their populations as slaves and nuking the rest of the world just because everyone who isn’t American just needs to fucking die. I am sure I am missing something.

@FlyingChainSaw: Sometimes a plan for world domination is just a plan for world domination.

@SanFranLefty: “Cigar night” can be a euphemism for so many things.

@nojo:
5.5 apparently, but I’ll take the spot at the kid’s table.

@Mistress Cynica: I guess snorkeling is limited to the Navy.

The Beeb is reporting that two people have been killed in the Gulf clean-up efforts. Coast Guard says separate incidents but is giving no details. The human body count is now 13 for BP.

@ManchuCandidate: Last time I check Google News in a hurry.

@IanJ: Cigars, drinks and Frito pies at RML’s on Saturday night! Reserve your place on the floor now! Survivor’s hike in the Santa Fe National Forest midday on Sunday.

Bring in the dog and put out the cat, yakkity yak.

@FlyingChainSaw:

A military plenio-whatsits?

And why is it that our Constitutional Freedom Defenders all wanna turn our country into a jumbo-sized panopticon?

@FlyingChainSaw: Did you write this apocryphal piece? It sounds like you, minus any skullfucking or Ballatine Ale pisses.

@Original Andrew: …a jumbo-sized panopticon. I know what that means. But can you tell me where the original was built? Yes, I am that smug.

@Benedick: I dunno if it was actually built or just proposed.

@SanFranLefty: Knew Dunlap in another life. That piece was a career ender – or at least severe side-tracker, for Col Dunlap. This is another part of the contemporary military plexus that is so disturbing. There are thoughtful leaders. There is sound scholarship. There is even insightful fiction to be found there. But even there the jesufascist militant fucktard faction is crowding out the rational population. Where is reason winning these days?

@Original Andrew: Is this the case you were talking about — oral sex in GA among minors? Wilson v. State of GA

@Benedick:

Hmmm…it’s referenced in Birth of the Clinic, right? Don’t tell me…

@Original Andrew: plenipotentiary – someone with all vested powers of the state. Lefty found an example in a white paper that was published by the scholarly military journal Parameters about a military plenipotentiary who assumed despotic powers during a fictional coup in 2012.

@Original Andrew:
They’ve started to realize that it’s just possible that Jeebus may have better things to do than smite gheyz, so they need a surveillance society to help out.

@SanFranLefty:
The one upside to the Shrub Wars may be that there’s not nearly enough of the armed forces available to get involved in domestic issues – massive deployments will tend to do that.

@al2o3cr: Speaking of Jebus…

The straight-for-pay be-scarfed queen who has been causing such hilarity seems to be more than one candle short of a menorah. He works for Lou Engle’s son who has a fund-raising scam in the Castro harassing law-abiding leather bears. They want to build some kind of House of Worship to keep the cash spigot open. Lou Engle, for those who don’t read the all-gay all-the-time blogs is very involved in the Kill-the-Gays bill in Uganda which is either still on the table, or not. Engle has been assiduous in his non-condemnation of it and its Ugandan champions are convinced they have his support. So far as all of us here in the US, Engle, as a man of God, would relinquish the ideal of stoning and settle for an off-shore penile colony. So girlfriend might be nuts but he’s balls deep in the industry.

How long before McChrystal publishes a book and announces his candidacy for the 2012 presidential race on the platform that Obama wanted him to fail against the Taliban because he is one of them?

@FlyingChainSaw:
2 Years, but that covering up Pat Tillman’s death (yep he’s the one) will come back to haunt him.

@ManchuCandidate: He’ll confess to it and proudly say he saw Tillman reading a book and right there knew he had to fucking die. Teabaggers will go fucking nuts for him and show up at his rallies wearing ‘Three Shots to the Temple’ T-shirts.

@FlyingChainSaw: “PALIN-MCCHRYSTAL.” As I predicted here yesterday.

@Benedick:

Heh – that article has a *great* bit to bounce off the teabaggers (from Romans 16ish, apparently):

Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

Yea verily, the Lord hath described FreedomWorks in great detail. :)

Fun fact: just found out we represent the father of Paultard Crush Object Adam Kokesh in a case here.

/ matter of public record

@al2o3cr: But nothing makes sense. It’s all rant. Crazy. This is why he should be a buyer for Macy’s.

Here’s a satellite photo of the entire Gulf of Mexico, oiled. And this thing is nowhere near being stopped.

PBS Newshour: People working on spill becoming ill but are afraid to complain for fear of being axed. It’s like when my brother caught Katrina Cough.

@JNOV: Two cleanup workers were killed today.

@Dodgerblue: If Nojo or Bloggie don’t beat me to it, I’m going to make that a Stinque stand alone post. Holy mother of Jesus.

What next?

If the fucking aliens show up, we’ll just have to tell them to get in line. We got our plates full.

Meantime, two people working on the oil-spill response effort died, but neither of the deaths were work-related, Adm. Allen said.

One of the deceased was working on a “Vessel of Opportunity” in the Gulf Shores, Ala., area, Adm. Allen said. The Vessel of Opportunity program is designed by BP to hire shrimpers and other boat owners to patrol the sea and look for oil. Baldwin County Coroner Stan Vinson said the worker appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The other death was the result of a swimming-related accident. Adm. Allen didn’t say where the swimming death occurred.

BTW: how did primitive acting class jargon find its way to such a groovy site as this?

@JNOV: I’d probably shoot myself if I saw what the cleanup crews are seeing.

@Benedick: A little wiki whispered in my ear that a true panopticon hasn’t been built (yet!).

@JNOV: Yes, that’s the case. They’ve got some e-v-i-l sumbitches working in the courts and legislature in Georgia.

@JNOV: The news showed video the other night of people, including children presumably accompanied by their parents, playing with the tar balls on the beach. If it smells like their brains are on fire, maybe they shouldn’t play with them, right?

@Original Andrew: As I remember it was designed to be built as the first a radical new type of prison in Cherry Hill Philadelphia. Radical because its intent was to reform the inmates rather than punish them. One central ‘all-seeing’ guard looked out from a central position into the cells of all the prisoners. The design created quite a stir and gaolers came from London to see this new type of prison. The design was modified and so was not a true panopticon but the prisoners, who had one hour of communal exercise during which they wore a hood to hide their faces so that there would be no chance they would be recognized when they got back outside. That was kept up for a few years then dropped. But the intent of the new prison went all over the world.

@Tommmcat Still Gets Carly Confused With Meg: Good God, never! But it’s a cliche that must have begun somewhere.

@Benedick: I knew you’d asked me a trick question–prepare yourself for a cyber cheek-pinching. I’ll leave which cheek to your imagination.

@Benedick: But instead of Cherry Hill, they built Veteran’s Stadium. Ah, Philly….

@Benedick: Right, the central organizing philosophy was that the prisoners could be watched at any time or all the time and have no means of detecting whether or not they were being observed. Panopticon gets recruited in analogy during discussions of surveillance camera systems and broadening of police surveillance powers.

@Nabisco: Oh, that’s too funny – I hadn’t even clicked on your link to The Vet article when I started extolling the virtues of the 700.

@Benedick:

It’s the teabagger version of Bible study – just like the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, anything by Ayn Rand, etc. they haven’t read *it* either, and only know how to quote the crunchy bits they like.
