Still waiting on Obama. Retired general on Fox calls McChrystal “an American hero” and then lapses into sentences entirely made up of cliches: “He should have been taken to the woodshed and then sent back out there to take this thing across the goal line.”

Retired general then says he’s glad that Rolling Stone reporters weren’t at their “cigar nights” out there in Kabul. They have “cigar nights”?

The Beeb is reporting that two people have been killed in the Gulf clean-up efforts. Coast Guard says separate incidents but is giving no details. The human body count is now 13 for BP.

Lou Engle, for those who don’t read the all-gay all-the-time blogs is very involved in the Kill-the-Gays bill in Uganda which is either still on the table, or not. Engle has been assiduous in his non-condemnation of it and its Ugandan champions are convinced they have his support. So far as all of us here in the US, Engle, as a man of God, would relinquish the ideal of stoning and settle for an off-shore penile colony. So girlfriend might be nuts but he’s balls deep in the industry.

How long before McChrystal publishes a book and announces his candidacy for the 2012 presidential race on the platform that Obama wanted him to fail against the Taliban because he is one of them?

Meantime, two people working on the oil-spill response effort died, but neither of the deaths were work-related, Adm. Allen said.

One of the deceased was working on a “Vessel of Opportunity” in the Gulf Shores, Ala., area, Adm. Allen said. The Vessel of Opportunity program is designed by BP to hire shrimpers and other boat owners to patrol the sea and look for oil. Baldwin County Coroner Stan Vinson said the worker appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The other death was the result of a swimming-related accident. Adm. Allen didn’t say where the swimming death occurred.

@Original Andrew: As I remember it was designed to be built as the first a radical new type of prison in Cherry Hill Philadelphia. Radical because its intent was to reform the inmates rather than punish them. One central ‘all-seeing’ guard looked out from a central position into the cells of all the prisoners. The design created quite a stir and gaolers came from London to see this new type of prison. The design was modified and so was not a true panopticon but the prisoners, who had one hour of communal exercise during which they wore a hood to hide their faces so that there would be no chance they would be recognized when they got back outside. That was kept up for a few years then dropped. But the intent of the new prison went all over the world.
