Maya Angelou (1928-2014)

What a woman.

What a life.

My favorite Maya Angelou-related pop culture is the Maya Angelou Reads the Craigslist M4M4Sex skit.

OMFG I just spit beer all over the computer!

@¡Andrew!: I was a big fan of Maya Angelou’s Simpsons appearance in the “Insane Clown Poppy” episode, a summary of said episode courtesy of the Simpsons wiki:

In the panel discussion of the future of reading at the Festival of Books, Lenny asked Angelou if the B-2 bomber [is] more detectable when it rains. She replied that “The ebony fighter awakens, dabbled with the dewy beads of morn. It is a mach-5 child, forever bound to suckle from the shriveled breast of Congress.” Moe was also there and was surprised at Maya Angelou is black.

Another hero leaves us . . . where are the replacements?

The Onion nailed it, per usual. I seem to recall reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings sophomore year of high school. In as many ways as my English teacher that year was horrid, she did something right. That, and making us memorize and recite bits of poems and speeches and such. A lost art.

@mellbell: Meanwhile, some poor geek rushed to reset their database for longer headline fields.

@nojo: Meanwhile, I created the “Sheroes” tag for posts upon her death, and was horrified I didn’t create it 5 years ago when I was first given keys to the jalopy.

@SanFranLefty: “Sheroes” sounds like the opening volley in a cisgender argument.
